Why is Curt Cobain a star?

Well on one music forum there is a lot of fight around this one.
Well we all know who was Curt Kobain, lead singer and guitarist of Nirvana. His hits are "Smells like teen spirit", "Come as you are" "Rape me" and so on!
The question is; why is he a star?
If you are guitarist you will know that Curt sucks when it comes to playing guitar, he`s really bad! So this isn`t answer!
I personally dislike Nirvana and Curt but i want o know why people think that he was something special!

He is a star and he deserved to be that because he wrote such simple songs but coming straight from his heart...he expressed a lot of emotions in his work and the public was aware of that. He wasn't that technical but his technique was enough for his music...his music is emotion and not cold technique.

Cold technique? Why do you think that guitar technique is cold. Slash has great technique and his solos are great. lovely melodies and fast riffs.
