The huge number of Christian sects just prooves that man is a thinker. He can make decisions on any topic and that diferenciates him from other animals.
There are many different factions in the muslim religion as well.
The people to avoid are the fanatics who believe their religion is the only true religion on earth. They are as much the same as heretics and non-believers.

Thank you for your response. I completely agree about the fanatics. I don't believe God intended for their to be so many different denominations. Alot of churches split into seperate churches (different denominations) because of an argument or disagreement within the church. What happen to people putting aside their differences and realizing that we're all here for the same purpose.

I think it's important for people to not pay so much attention to denominations and more attention to the biblical truths being spoken in the church. When we were looking for a church we wanted one that would teach us what the bible had to say, not a priest, not a pope, not a "denomination", but the good old B-I-B-L-E.
I am constantly thinking about what Christianity is supposed to be like and I feel that the pastor of the church I attend does a great job relaying that to us by using God's word. He explains words, their meaning in Hebrew or Greek, and the English translation as well as the context of the story. He's a true student of God's word. You can tell that his sermons probably take hours to prepare.
No - I don't always like what he has to say, nor do I always agree with it, but that's not what matters. His job isn't to stand in the pulpit and tell us all what we think is right or what we want to hear. His job is to tell us what God's word says.
My denomination is Baptist. The Baptist "denomination" actually just means that we are independent/bible teaching/self governed. The church's members make the decisions for the church, nobody else, etc.

I think that the huge number of christian sects just proves that most people are selfish and would rather create their own set of rules than follow the ones set down. What's scary is that most of these 'new' religions all started in one country, the US, and that that country is getting more bigoted and fundamentalized all thetime and its eroding their rights without them even realizing it. its getting so bad that some of those churches excommunicate someone for not marrying within the group.
