Here in my country (Philippines), rice is our staple food. It is the most common food found in every filipino dining tables, and we eat it with variands. Variands can be stews, native filipino dishes, fried fish/chicken/pork, and even cooked vegetables.
Rice is rich in carbohydrates, and it provides more than one fifth of calories consumed by our body everyday.
We even make rice as porridge and congees, we just add up some chicken meat or pork in it. We can also use the left-overs and fry it, but we make sure that it is not spoiled!;)
So what staple food you prefer to heve on your table?
Do you go for the conventional foods that your country provides you, or you always try something new and different?
What do you prefer to combine in eating rice, variands?

i am a filipino, too and i just can't live a day without rice. rice keeps me alert and up every hour of the day. i love the famous "sinangag" or fried rice. even when just fried with garlic and onion, i am already good to go.
rice is really great for every meal. i can get on with every viand there is. i love "adobo" first and foremost... chicken, fish or pork adobo! wow! thinking about it just makes me hungry again.
i also love eggs and "chorizo" with it.
actually, all viands can go along with the famous rice. it just makes my everyday complete.

I like rice a lot, but my husband prefers potatoes. I will get hungry for one, or another, and eat it a lot, almost until I am sick. In my rice I like meat, and sauces or gravies. On potatoes I like butter and herbs.

in my house,i'd have to say it's potatoes.we eat potatoes with everything.i try to get them to eat more rice,as i like it myself,
but they don't like it as much as i do.
as far as the rice itself,i like to throw in chicken and broth, peas or broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms and cheese.
i'll also add garlic and onion as seasoning.

You make rice sound so good. Maybe I should try some. EWe haven't had rice in years. We do it a lot of pasta though so I guess you could call that our staple. Also, baked potatoes are another good startch we use alot.

i'm also a pinoy who is now in US but we do eat rice everyday for lunch and dinner. white rice to be the long grain type is the most favorite with any different VIANDS " ulam " we can match up . we still enjoy so much chicken pork adobo , mongo soup with coco milk , pinakbet , crispy bangus , sweet and sour fish or porkchop , chicken bbq and grilled pork ribs , kare-kare , sinigang for pork necks or shrimp and always the chili mix seafoods and bicol express. we always prepare homemade meals at home 'coz we love to have rice and the pinoy cooking dishes.
for breakfast we usually eat bread with cheese or a ham clubhouse and fresh milk or an oatmeal with banana or any fruit bowl and a glass of fresh orange juice.
