The Harry Potter book series, by J.K. Rowling has been wildly popular through recent years. Do you enjoy Harry Potter? Do you prefer the book(s) or the movie(s)? Which book has been your favorite thus far? Which movie has been your favorite thus far? What is it, specifically, that you enjoy most about the Harry Potter series? Are you looking forward to book seven? Have you already ordered it, or are you going to be waiting in line on release day? OR, will you simply wait for people to calm down a bit before you buy it?

I absolutely love the Harry Potter books, but I despise the movies, because I think they went about them all wrong.
My favorite book so far is Half-Blood Prince, followed by Prisoner of Azkaban. Both HBP and OotP are sad books because of character deaths, but for me, HBP is so much easier for me to get through, because throughout the book she has humor to balance all the dark that is in there. I just didn't find that in Order of the Phoenix. And Prisoner of Azkaban is just a great book, extremely well written, and I love that it's the only one that doesn't include a fight with Voldemort.
What, specifically, do I enjoy most about the series? I don't know if I could actually answer that in a way that makes sense. I guess there's just something magical about the series. I love all the relationships, the characters growth and developement, I love that characters that you think would be on the evil side aren't, while characters you think are good, aren't good. I love the complexity in what is supposed to be a children's book, but so obviously isn't just meant for kids.
I am look forward to, and dreading book 7. I can't wait to find out what finally happens, but I don't want it all to end so soon. I've already ordered my copy of the book, and you can bet that I will be in line at midnight, waiting to buy my own copy. I love the energy of being at a big release party, and can't understand why someone would want to just wait a couple of days to get it. I'd be too afraid of being spoiled, being told what happens in the book.

haha, yes, I'm a very die-hard fan. I've been in line at midnight for the past 2 books, and am planning on being there at midnight for this one. I've also been to 2 Harry Potter conventions, and am planning on going to at least 2 more. There's even a band called Harry and the Potters that I listen to.

I'm a 65-year-old Harry Potter nut! I have loved all the books, but I guess the first one is my favorite. It got me hooked! I won't stand in line for the new book, tho. I have a friend who does that, then lends me her copy! I like the movies, but I do like the books better. I've never seen a movie yet that could do justice to a book!

That's a good point. Most of the time, I too find that the book is so much better than the movie. (Then again, there's more time to develop characters and story lines in a book than in a movie, and I have a wildly vivid imagination). +

i also preffer the first book. in my oppinion the others are just commercial. They're made to sell. Some of them have really lost the main purpouse. Don't get me wrong, i'm a fan too, but there are certain things that just aren't fair. And yes, you are right, the movies are nothing compared to the books.

i prefer the book because its more elaborate though i love to see the movie because of the sceneries. My favorite i think is half blood prince, i enjoyed most of it because of detailed description combined with magic plus the fact that j.k. rowling is a good storyteller. yes, i am looking forward to book seven but i think i will wait for people to calm down before buying one

I LOVE the books, even if I consider the movies to be decent. However, my favorite book has to be the Chamber of Secrets.

Oh I love Harry Potter and I have read the entire 6 series. The most fascinating thing about it is the magic in it. I dont like keeping my book down and thats leave all the work until I finish the entire book.
I am desperately waiting for the 7 part. I have not ordered it, I will buy it on the release date.

Well most people say that the books are bether than the movie, but I don't think it is like that. At the movie you see the stories better. The first movie is still the best I think, but that's always with movies I think ;)

Some people prefer movies, for the visual stimuli. Some people prefer books, for the imagination and more detailed story lines. It's different for everyone.

I have never read the book but intensely disliked the movies. I've only scene the first three and wanted my time back after each one of them. I suspect this is why I have not picked up the books. I am sure they are immensly better, but after terrible disapointments on the movies, I can't seem to be bothered.

Wow, you really do intensely (I'd even say passionately) dislike the movies. The books are better, but it is the same basic story line. So, if you don't like the story line, you probably won't like the books either. On the other hand, if you want to give it a go without wasting your money, you could check it out of the library first, to see if you'd like it or not. +

I LOVE Harry Potter, and so does my partner. Strangely enough my kids aren't that interested. Maybe when they get a little older they might be. We have all the books and all the DVD's so far.
I think so far out of all of them, I still like Book one. I like how harry finds out from Hagrid that he's a wizard and when Hagrid makes Dudley's butt sprout a curly pigs tail, I still laugh.
On release day, my partner is going to a little known about bookstore for the book. Not many people know that this place carries the books on release day, and we have a loyalty card so we usually end up getting a couple of dollars knocked off the price. It's better than pre ordering or waiting in line for the release lol.

I am a 30 year old mother of three and I absolutely love the Harry Potter series. I didn't start reading them until the fifth book was being released adn I became interested. I bought all four of the books already released and read through them like there was no tomorrow! Every time a new one is released I borrow the hardcover from the library to read and then buy the paperback when it is released. I love to watch the movies but as with just about any story, the books are better. I think that my favorite book to date is the first. There is nothing like the beginning for me, when Harry is first discovering what he can actually do and the acceptance he finds at Hogwarts is great. The other stories are wonderful and I love them all. I can't wait to read the final book but, at the same time, I'm sad that this will be the end of the series.

I know what you mean. This book will wrap up the series, which is the joy and the sadness of it simultaneously. I will love to see what finally happens, but at the same time, it's over after that. +

O iam crazy about Harry Potter as well and i agree the books are much better than the movies. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite. But i love the rest of the books as well. The character are so well developed and well thought out its like we all know them personally. And i have read so many discussions here on HArry Potter!! Everybody seems to have their own favorite character their own story of the seventh book will turn out etc its amazing that so much can be discussed about fictional characters so much!!

Prisoner of Azkaban was definately a good one! Lots of wonderful imagery there, and that's where the series really starts to take on a darker tone. +

I love the series so far. I can't wait for the last book and the newest movie to come out. Not sure which I'll be able to do first due to money but I can't wait. I think so far my favorite book has been Half-Blood Prince. Each book just gets better then the one before. Otherwise I'd say the Prisoner of Azkahban is my favorite. It's my favorite of the movies that's for sure, at least so far.

My favorite book in the series so far is The Order of the Phoenix -- though in truth, I like 'em all ^_^
I don't have a favorite with the movies yet lol.
I'm going to wait for the newest book to come out at the library -- my favorite haunt. Libraries often get books before book stores do..well at least in my experience. And since I hang out at the library alot, I should get it fairly quickly..depending who else figured out that the libraries get the books first lol.
I adore books, and like the HP series, but I'm not obsessed with it like I am other series'..I can be patiant, heh ^_^

That is a good one. And, I know I've said that I think I'll have to go with Prisoner of Azkaban as my favorite thus far, but it is a real toss up because I really do have something in all of them that I like so much.
Hmmm, interesting that Libraries get the books first most of the time. That is definately a little tid bit I did not know.
Thank you for responding. :) +

I love Harry Potter and I don't see how anyone could prefer the movies to the books. :) Its really hard to pick my favorite book. I think its between The Order of Phoenix and The Half-Blood Prince. I hope that the 7th will become my favorite though. My favorite movie would be Goblet of Fire. I am really looking forward to book seven and the next movie. I haven't ordered it yet because I will buy it at the time of release at Walmart. So much cheaper that way. I always go to the release party anyway so its easier.

Wow !, you can't tell how much I like Harry Potter book !, seriously this was another my two favorite novel besides Eragon. Harry Potter was the first novel I like. The first time I buy this novel, I thought this novel was an ordinary novel, a boring reading. But, after I read these magnificent novel, each of it's word was a masterpiece, it makes me happy, sad and cry, yes cry sometimes. Are you know anything about the last novel ? , tell me everything you know !!

I personally got bored from the Harry Potter series after finishing the fifth book. I dont find the books to be as exciting as they were when i was younger however i do prefer the books over the movie because the movie lacks several things the book refers to. For example, what happened to Peeves?? that was what i was waiting for when the first movie came. that was a big disappointment

I can see where you're coming from on that. I personally, in regards to the movies, was disappointed with how they didn't develop Hermione's cat at all in Prisoner. I like the character, and in the book the cat had a purpose in chasing the rat around. But, I guess they decided that just wasn't important for them. Ah well. +
