Mediocrity irritates me, but then I'm one of the 'smart with an attitude' people. When I'm working, I get my work done efficiently and correctly. My attitude comes in dealing with those who just plain refuse to use the brain in their head, plodding along day after day and often making things more difficult than they need to be.

Based on experience, I've had better luck with people who are mediocre but diligent and hardworking. In time they will learn to improve themselves and mediocrity wouldn't be a problem. They will soon outgrow this liability. I've also worked with someone who was smart but her attitude just drove me through the roof. She always bragged about finishing from a prestigious school but her performance was just intolerable. All talk but not action. I requested the other for continued contract while the smart one, well, she maybe better off somewhere else.
