i'm sure fellow filipinos have heard of chavit singson, a very prominent name in ilocos politics but became famous nationwide when he played a role in the impeachment of ex-president erap estrada.
he is the incumbent governor of ilocos sur and at present, vying for a seat in the senate. as far as i can remember, i've always voted for him and have already considered reserving a space in my ballot for him this coming elections, but now, i am having second thoughts.
i was able to watch him in a Forum last night with Kiko Pangilinan and Alan Peter Cayetano and my oh my, they swallowed him alive. he can't even use up the two minutes alloted for him to speak. and in the 15seconds that he talks, words are repeated three times.
my co-worker says she's going to vote for chavit because he may not be a talker but he is definitely a doer.
how about you, are you going to vote for chavit and why?

Chavit Singson really is one famous guy in the Philippines right now. Especially that he's on the running for being a senator. I haven't watched the episode last night of the Forum but I guess what you've said is enough to imply that he's almost not fit for the position. Well, everything depends on personal opinion, if you think that being a good talker is a good standard for choosing a senator then let it be your basis - at the very least you are scrutinizing every implication that comes in.
But please.. Never forget that there might be a lot more candidates out there who could better help this country but dont share the same popularity as Chavit.. Candidates who have a got cleaner records - no murder cases hanging, no treacherous issues with other individuals and no issues on corruption...

That's a good point. Being a good talker does not imply that one is fit for the senatorial position. I wouldn't mind Chavit talking in Filipino but for someone who's running for senator, he must have explained his points well. His job requires him so. How can we expect him to make good laws if he cannot even consume his 2 minutes talk? He's been talking about "justice delay is justice denied" and that "transparency is being transparent"... Any highschool graduate can give you the first phrase and would think that the second line is not a definition.

Definitely no. It is very clear that he is a corrupt official. Why do we still need to add another corrupt man in the national government? Then if he could not speak or say what he wants to say, why should he be in the Senate where he would defend his bill if any? If he is a doer, then he should stay in his province and not in the Senate to take side in favor of the passage of laws with vested interests.

As far as I know Chavit Singson si some rich guy who happened to be a very famous political figure during Erap's time and now with Gloria's Administration. He was the people behind the ouster of President Erap who has stayed for quite a short time because of the questionable "Jueteng Funds Scandal". Now he is running for the senate... I am thinking twice if he could or should run for it since this body of government looks for good lawmakers and he is a good administrator not a lawmaker. I guess it would be good if he tried lower first like maybe the congressional seat where he could gauge his ability in his own province before starting national. People like Chiz and Cayetano started from below and gathered lots of recognition becuase of their exposes and debating abilities. They have shown not only to their districts that they could run for national position like the senate. But let's see if he has some chance for me I wouldn't vote for him just as yet. I will vote for track record and history.

i don't think there's anything wrong about dreaming to be the next president, it's just a dream anyway. rumors about him ordering the killings of people here and there have been circulating for years now. he's so rich because it's no secret that he is the jueteng lord of ilocos. and the people of ilocos are jueteng addicts.

Of course I will vote for him not only because he is my kababayan but because of what he has done in the province during his service in the government. He had helped many people especially the poor even his enemies. He is a man of word and action. He do what he says. As he had said he will make the north progressive.

Your opinion reflects a negative aspect of the Filipinos. We are not united. Who we vote depends on where the politician came from, if he/she is a kababayan, then vote. It's like we're up against every other provinces.

i am also from the north but i have not made up my mind yet if i am going to vote for him. and with his weekly antics (first the involvement in the hostage crisis, then the chooper crash last weekend), i am beginning to be disappointed, really, really disappointed.

He's not only a doer, he's a gambler,and a man of his words.
A gambler is not intelligent in terms of academic subject, but he is bright in the future.
He always look forward not backward. I've been watching him since pacquiao rise as superstar. He even surpassed Lito Atienza 's popularity.

well, there's a sating that "talk is cheap". Cayetano & Pangilinan are just riding with prestige. As for Cayetano, he dropped the bomb, but does the bomb bursted?! No, he can't still beleive that it doesn't which led him to embarassment especially to his Alma Mater.

I will vote for Chavit. Yes, he is also a traditional politician and really knows how to play mixing ice with fire. But he is also a man of action and he has had more concrete projects done than other candidates who are only good in "dada ng dada". He may not eventually win a Senate seat but it does not matter to me. There are more thousands politicians more rotten than him. By the way, I am not an Ilocos resident -- I am from the Visayas.

I'm not going to vote this coming elections because I cannot chose between any of them. They are the same people, same problem to our country. I might regret it if nothing happens when they are already in the position.Plus I'll feel guilty when our country suffers from them. Good day!

Chavit Singson, Kiko Pangilinan, cayetano, Zubiri, Richard Gomez and other senatoriables name them all, I guess not anyone of them can make a very big change in the Philippines. Many political leader have been into position and power but none of them helped in alleviating the poverty in the country. So why vote? you're just wasting your time and money. Even if you vote for the right leaders, CHEATING can't be prohibited. They will always cheat the result no matter what. Don't vote! It wont make any big difference who ever wins. because there are a lot of corrupt people besides the high ranking officials. Even the lowest in rank do their share, they also corrupt. wake up my friends. there is no love for the country among Filipino people. They don't fear the law or God. How can the country progress even if we have good leaders? There is a queue of corrupt people under these high ranking officials. Start loving the country first and don't just rely on votes alone.

I still dont know if I am gonna vote for him. I want to vote someone who is really dedicated to help and serve the Philippines ( where I am living right now) My vote will not depend on popularity or a person is well- known, not because he came from a family who are politician and will just continue the service. My vote will be reserved to the someone who really deserve nd very credible to the people

Luis Chavit Singson. I'm from the Ilocos Region and I've heard a lot from my folks about his projects and how he improved Ilocos Sur. I will definitely vote for him this coming election because I believe he will not make a difference for our country.

OH NO! I will not vote for this guy. Aren't we Filipinos already fed up with these kind of politicians?
First, Senators aren't much of a 'doer' in the first place. They're primarily supposed to ANALYZE a bill's approval. In other words, they're supposed to have the brains not the "hands". (if it's even true that he's more of a doer, im even doubting the quality of his work) Thus, the future of the country is in the hands of elected senators. What if they pass a law that is in favor of their own interests or what if they pass a law that not knowledegeable of? He can't even speak in a forum, and stand his ground,--this just means that he hasn't prepared for what to say, what more if he's put into position? Can you stand for more unpreparedness or the "Bahala Na" system when it comes to our country's future? If he's that unprepared even in important situations, what do you think he probably do? He would just imitate and reflect the other politician's opinions. How can you think of voting a gambling lord as a Senator in the first place?
MAg-isip issp naman tayo.
