Does Higher Education = Success! ?

I have been researching about starting my own business and reading autobiographies about successful business people. I'm getting mixed information about streets smarts and school smarts. The one question I came upon was, does Higher education equal success? or is it common sense that matters? I know a few people in my community with only primary school education and are millionaires. What's up with that?

I don't think having higher education means guaranteed success. Sure it may help, but in the end it relies on the person. There are plenty of people in this world with top-notch education with relatively good jobs and others who dropped out and have spectacular jobs. I agree that determination is an enormous contributing factor towards achieving high-end success. I also don't believe that someone who hasn't completed high school is not up to par with someone who has. A higher education gives an edge on the aspect of knowledge relating to that area of expertise, but the lower educated people may have an edge in logic and strategic planning. Again, it varies from person to person.

I agree determination is a key factor. But, what about know-how, luck, action. I don't think just going on determination alone is enough. I think it comes down to what kind of education you've received that matters. Books vs. Real life experience.

And the million-dollar answer is... NO! Higher education does NOT necessarily mean more sucess. Bill Gates dropped out of high school (last time i heard) and now he practically own our souls. Many celebrities have succeeded without the need to please some know-it-all college proffesor who's just mad cause his parents forced him to study.. That didn't sound bitter, did it? Trust me, YOU are the only person who knows whether you'll succeed or not. If you see yourself only as being successful and rich and you can't imagine your life in any other way, then you will definitely succeed. But if you're one of those people who think "Why don't I try this for now and see how it goes?" You probably won't succeed.

For a successful businessman, higher study is not necessary. You will see many successful businessmen have less education even though they are on top. Many talented people are working under them. The intellectual we receive by birth, works for success in any business. It is not the book. Though it helps also.

I disagree with such an equation. I know a lot of people who never even finished high school but are way too successful now.. They say determination is the key to real success. It is true that education is an advantage but if education is not accompanied by determination, it is still be meaningless.. We should also note that there are many diploma holders who are not very successful in life..

I agree that determination is key to real success, but I also think one needs to be devious and have to step on some toes to get to where you want. Sometimes, standing in line won't get you anywhere.
