Ideas for training dogs, Got any?

I am trying to train my 6 month old Yorkinese/chihuahua, he will sit, stand, and play fetch, looks at us like we are nuts when we try to get him to shake hands. He is our baby and we love to play with him and he makes us do tricks LOL so we want him to do them also. Potty training is working pretty well when i am home but i work part time a couple days a week and am not home everyday he doesn't go all over the house leaving spots just ina couple ares, one corner of the living room, the other spots are on piddle pads and the bath mat in the bathroom.
