Sippy cup?

I was just curious as to when would be the right time to start weaning my child form the bottle He is 7 months old. He will still get formula. Only in his sippy cup. Should I wait a little longer? Is the bottle necisary at this age for pacifying? Or is he old enough.
I love him dearly and my husband and I, want what is best for him. I do not want to rush him into growing up but I do not want him to get too reliant on his bottle. What do you think?
Thanks so much!

I let my son chose when he wanted to come off of his bottle, he was only 9 months old though, he wanted the cup one morning & wouldn't accept a bottle, but he had just seen my cousins son with a sippy cup the day before, he was like 13 months or so. But my son did really well with the cup. I would try to introduce the sippy cup, like with breakfast with his favorite juice in it, but don't force him if he isn't ready. Just watch and see how he reacts to it, you should be able to tell when he is ready, slowly give it to him more & more.

I waited til my kids were a year old to take them off the bottle. But give him juice out of a sippy cup now so when you take him off the bottle he knows the sippy cup.
