It wasn't so much as given to me as I read it. I was reading Tuesdays With Morrie(which I recommend that everyone read) and the best advice I got from the book was:
Love Each Other Or Die
To me, the statement just means, love everyone because we are all linked and without love, we die.
But then ever since I read For One More Day, I am a total Mitch Albom convert and I have tried to read everything he has written. They are all such profound books with such deep lessons. Every time I read one, I learn something new.

I have a few as my mother was a wise woman.
One was: If you loan a friend money, dont expect to get it back, count it as a loss, if you do get it back great, but dont let money ruin your friendship.
Another was to take everyones advice to heart, and listen to their experiences, as other peoples experiences can help you with your decision, but ultimately follow your own heart, as it is your life and you have the power to make it anything you want it to be.

I like the idea of seriously considering advice, but then deciding on your best course.

Accept full responsibility for your life. If things go wrong or someone hurt you just take responsibility for your response and move forward in a positive manner.
I would add one little bit more "Hatred destroys the vessel which carries it"

That's way profound. We are like vessels with cargo in our hold, but we act like we have no control over what we are shipping.

That's so true, as it's always been said, you can't please everyone.

My cousin's mom (no, she's not my aunt) told me when I was debating how to leave my ex-fiance without him cutting himself up (again), "You don't need a man to make you miserable. You can be miserable all by yourself."
The BEST advice I ever got.
THANK YOU, JACKIE (If you're here somewhere, that is.)

You never know unless you try, if you want to be successful just keep on trying, if you fail, do not lose hope, instead get up and try again, and in trying you'll learn your mistakes and the next time that you'll try you'll considered what you have done wrong that made you fail and that would be your motivation to step up and do better.
