Public Smoking Ban - is it enough to make you give up?

From 1st July 2007, smoking is to be banned in enclosed public places throughout England. The ban has already started in Wales, Scotland and Ireland.
As a current smoker, I have noticed I am becoming more and more of an outcast. Whilst in a very busy pub in London recently, I noticed that there were only two people smoking, myself and one other guy.
When I later went to a restaurant with my partner and asked for a table, the maitre de apologised and said they only had a smoking table available.
I have been trying on and off to give up smoking for some time now but wonder if this ban will actually make any difference.
Do you think the Ban is likely to encourage more people to give up or will it simply drive people away from pubs and restaurants?
What's your view?

let's be realistic people... these kinds of bans and stuff like that, will never make someone quit smoking, ok? anyone can smoke in the comfort of his own home if someone bans him from smoking in a public space. anyway, the only ones who are gonna get hurt after drastic things like this one, are the restaurants, clubs and other activities like this one.

I only smoke now and again, mostly when I go out for a drink.
I dont think this will make people give up at all, I think it will just drive people outside to do it and is more likely to lead to smokers just not going places where they will be totally banned from smoking

I only smoke to relax me and I do that from the comfort of my own home, so it won't make any difference to me. I probably smoke about five a week. I will be interested to see how big nightclubs especially in my city of London will cope once they ban smoking, I do feel the government is going OTT and they should be concentrating more on binge drinking. As I personally feel that it's drinking that's the major blight on society NOT smoking.

I am only a part time smoker, but anytime I hear people condemning smoking, I want to light up. I don't appreciate government interferance in my life, especially if I am partaking in an indulgance that is completely legal.
That said. There are many places here in the US that have banned smoking. If I go out drinking with my husband or with my friends, I enjoy a good smoke and I do not feel self consious or guilty about taking myself outside to light up. I sometimes feel aggravated. I have not known many people who have attempted to quit smoking because of the ban. They just go outside. At the bar we frequent, at any time of night there can be up to 20 people standing outside and all the little non smokers have to pass through a cloud of smoke to get to the front door.
Quitting smoking should be a personal decision. No one should be bullied into it.
