well, even as a catholic its hard to say what the pope stands for, what he really is. Is he the representant of god on this earth? just the bishop of rome? leader of the catholic church? president of the vatican state? diplomat? in general is he more good or more bad? i am especially interested in opinions of non-catholic, because of a catholic member its hard to imagine what other poeple think of this man. Do you think it would be somethung missing in the world, if the catholic church would give up having a pope?

I am a former catholic faithful and a believer in what the church says and do's.But when i start to read the bible, many questions about the catholic faith arise. For example it is stated in the bible that all men sinned and fall short to the standard of God,Jesus prohibits the calling of father to a person with regards to religion,Jesus commanded the apostles to spread the good news and at the same time to work to earn his living,God and also Jesus warn of idolatry, false witness, these things and many more are practiced by the catholics and many more.Even the infallibility of the pope is a blasphemy in the eyes of God.What will you believe if you are a christian, the bible which is inspired by God or the doctrines and dogmas which is inspired by man?

I think you got it right with the last question. Is it the Word of God or the word of man? I'll stick with the Word of God.

I think the pope stands as the leader of the catholic church. He is a great man. I am not a catholic but I know how special he is to people of that religion. My polish friend was delighted when he saw the pope in Poland. He told me that it was the most wonderful day of his life. I used to teach in a catholic school. I saw the way Catholic people feel about their religion. I respected their customs very much indeed. When Father came to our classroom the children were very excited. I remember wondering how excited the children would be if they ever saw the pope. The daily prayers the children said were very meaningful. Yes, something would be missing if there was not a pope.
