Werewolves are men who change into vicious often man-eating wolves or wolfmen during a full moon. The first half of the name, "werewolf", comes from the Teutonic wer, meaning "man"; therefore werewolf literally means "man-wolf". Although this is the most common belief in lycanthropy, there are numerous others that describe the voluntary or involuntary transformation from man to bears, big cats, hyenas, and other fierce creatures.
Often, werewolfism is passed on through tainted blood and can only be ended in death. It is said that shooting using silver bullets is very effective in killing werewolves, as is forcing them to drink salt water or splashing them with holy water. In some cultures, a blow to the head of a werewolf using an iron rod will free the man from werewolf possession.
Do you beleive in Werewolves? Have you got any good Werewolf stories?

My brother used to tease me terribly when we were little. We saw a werewolf movie with lon Chaney and I was scared, so at night when the lights were out and we were all in bed he would chant "Even a man who's pure in heart and says his prayers by night, may be come wolf when the wolf bane blooms and the moon is full and bright". I was so scared . I am still scared of them today although i don' t believe they truly exist.

Oh, what a brat just like my little sister. She used to do this deep scary laugh just after I would shut out the light and get in bed....I don't know why it scared me so much...probably because she sounded possessed or very evil when she did it...lol

I can't say that I believe in werewolves, but I can say that I do believe it is possible that do or have existed at some time in some place. There are many legends and stories from around the globe, with each culture having a slightly different take on the legend of the lycanthrope. Though these stories are slightly different from one another, they all share striking similarities. So, logic would dictate that it is certainly possible that they have existed at one point or another.
I don't have any stories of my own (If I did, I would look at the subject as being much more than mere possibility. lol). The only sotries I know of the werewolf (or werecreature of any kind) are either entirely fictional or historical myth/legend.

Nope sorry, I am all out of werewolf stories.. All I know they scare the blankety-blank out of me..lol Give me nightmares. Do I believe in werewolves? I don't know. Only thing I have really heard about it is in the movies. I don't know anyone who has seen a real one either. I have heard that Indians can shapeshift into different animals though. I will check out your link so I can find out more stuff about it. Thanks..Beware of those full moon..becca--(

No dear, I do not believe in werewolves, and never did. Thank goodness, as it would be so frightful if they roamed around out here where I live.

I was watching something about this on television. Leonard Nimoy was doing a show about Werewolves and Vampires and the concensus was that in Midevil times, people who were born with the rare genetic condition that causes hair to grow very thickly all over their bodies were thought to be part beast and therefore suspect and likely dangerous. In Mexico, there is an entire family that have this disorder. The two boys were in the circus until just recently.

What I heard is, a werewolf in folklore and mythology is a person who shape-shifts into a wolf, either purposely by using magic, or after being placed under a curse. Most modern references agree that a werewolf can be killed if shot by a silver bullet, although this is more a reflection of fiction's influence than an authentic feature of the folk legends. A werewolf allegedly can be killed by complete destruction of heart or brain; silver is not necessary.

There are so many legends on werewolves and other half man/half animal beings that I have to think there is some grain of truth to them some where. They may not exist in this day and age but I do wonder if somewhere in the past there wasn't such creatures. Of course there is the condition Hypertrichosis which has been nicknamed as the Werewolf Disease because of the amount of hair a person grows all over their body. It could be it all originates from that but I personally don't think so. I think since the legends come from all over the world there has to be something to them.

I have to agree, with legends as widespread as this there must be something more to it.

I dont know any good werewolf stories except in movies but I do believe in them or at least the possibility that they exist is one form or another... I do not believe alot of the myths however... for instance the silver bullet theory... I think that is pure bull or that they can only change at the full moon... why only the full moon? why not the new moon or half moon or in total daylight... well those are just my theories
