They are two authors that are often compared because they write the same kind of novels. I've always been a Koontx fan myself, even though I really enjoy King books as well. Who do you prefer?

Hello phlamingho!(",) Is Dean Koontz the author of "Faces of Fears"?(",)It's a scary one though, but horror novels are not my forte. I like watching horror movies more than reading one. I do have Stephen King's novel. It's a compilation of stories but not all are scary.(",)But I know there are many King's novel that were really great. I just Haven't got hold of it. Enjoy your day!(",)

I haven't read that much of Dean Koontz. Overall I prefer Stephen King books to him. With Koontz he seemed more into creeping me out where as with King it's more suspense and build up. At least that was my take on the books.

I have read both of their books and really like them both. But if I had to choose I would say Stephen King. He is my favorite.

I much prefer Stephen King. Several of my all-time favorite books are authored by Stephen King: his Dark Tower series, The Stand, and It.

I started with King found his books to be excellent, then I found Koontz and liked his work much better, so I continue to read Koontz. After King wrote tommyknockers his style went downhill in my opinion. I always felt that King's earlier books were better, before he got verbose. His last few books really had a lot of pages that did not contribute to the story.

I've always prefered King to Koontz. To me, Koontz was more about quantity than quality, though King does write his fair share of books. I don't know, I suppose King seems to have the more original ideas and fresh stories of the two.

Hands down King. However I actually started out reading Dean Koontz in High School and later turned to Stephen King to see why he was called the "Master of Horror". I am sold. Now when I read Koontz I can't even finish a chapter without becoming bored. His stories are all about government conspiracies and politics. He is too wordy the way he goes on and on with mundane details. You can't relate to any of his characters. King's characters are down to earth, blue collar, boy/girl next door with a Ford pick-up truck and a Budweiser. Koontz characters are Mercedes and Dom Perignon. I feel like I should be donning a Mr. Howell (Gilligan's Island) accent through clenched teeth "Lovey dahhhhling you look smashing"... And since when does a 14 year old child have such an intellectual conversation with adults she uses words like "Exorbitant", "Loquacious" and "Portentous".
