I cannot believe what just happened

Some of my friends know that my boyfriends father has pancreatic cancer. Its one of the worst kind you can get. Well, the surgery was scheduled for tomorrow. Relatives flew in from out of state, others took vacation time from thier jobs. His father started the "cleaning out" procedure by drinking that stuff and then sitting on the toliet all day. Just a little while ago we get a phone call from the hospital...the surgery has been cancelled. They found something on an ultrasound involving a problem with a heart valve. If it had not been caught, he most likely would not have survived the surgery. I'm glad they caught it but I wish they would have seen it sooner. I feel so bad for my boyfriends father. He hates hospitals and doctors to begin with and I am afraid now he may just want to give up. I just want to scream right now. Please somebody, cheer me up. Has something like this ever happened to you?

I'm so sorry and i can understand how upsetting this is right now..the same thing happened with my mother in law she was scheduled for a hysterectomy because of a huge tumor..two hours before surgery she starts running a very high fever and everything gets cancelled..of course we are all there we had flown 200 miles to there..but of course that was not the issue you get to a p[lace that you so ready to get started and suddenly everything stops..its like hitting the brakes at 100 miles an hour..i wish i could take away how awful; you and your family must be feeling but you will be in my thoughts and prayers Cheryl

It is better that they found out before he was on the table. My uncle was to have catarac surgery. He was put on the table, the anesthesia started, he said he felt like he was floating off the table when he was awakened by people shouting his name. He nearly passed away.

Oh honey....I am so glad though that they did catch it before the surgery at least. Yes they should have caught it much earlier, but thank goodness they got it now when they did. I wish I knew some way to cheer you up though... :( But I am drawing a blank there. *big hug*

OH wow! It's a good thing they caught that in time though. I'm sure your boyfriend's father doesn't want to go through that lovely "cleaning out" process again, let alone the surgery. I don't blame you for being upset. But imagine if they hadn't caught that, what the outcome would have been. He's still with you and your boyfriend, and that's a GOOD thing. If you want, I'll come and kick the doctors around a bit for ya! LOL (Did that cheer you up just a bit? I hope so. wink

Oh yes, same thing happened to my dad few years ago. He was suspected for having throat cancer. What we did is we asked second opinion from a different doctor in a diff. hospital and asked again for a third opinion from a diff doctor again and to another hopital. Thanked god we did that, if not for that my dad's now having a hard time speaking, his voice will slowly diminished after surgery. .got a big slash right behind his throat. It was actually just a big saliva formation behind his throat that makes it worse. . . . . I'll be praying for the speedy recovery of your boyfrien's father. I'm sure he'll hang on. (",)

I am so sorry that this has happened to your boyfriend's dad. Cancer is terrible and insidious. My mother-in-law had pancreatic cancer with liver metastasis. She found it too late for surgery. Be thankful that he still is a candidate for surgery after they fix the heart valve or some way to minimize the risk. I will pray for his speedy recovery. At least now he has a clean colon. I like the powder puff joke better. We are here for you.

I am sorry about your mother-in-law. I think I need a nap as I found the clean colon remark to be very funny. Thanks.

I guess your medical system is still better in the US than in Canada. I really do feel bad for your boyfriends dad, I really do feel sorry for this poor man being so sick. It really doesn't sound good I realize but after what has happened to me yesterday I very much doubt it would have been detected if he was in Canada. I know you have enough sadness and medical problems but when you're feeling better you can read my new thread. I will post it tonight. I think our whole world is falling to pieces when it come to the health field. You folks are still in my prayers. It's good some of the family are there right now may cheer the poor fellow up a bit. Take time to Take Care !!!

I don't know you, but I'm so sorry to hear this has happened. On the other hand, someone was definitely looking out for your boyfriends father by having the docs check the ultrasound. If they hadn't caught it, chances are he wouldn't have made it through surgery, so at least they have that in their favor. I wish you and your boyfriends family all the very best of luck in treating this. Cancer is a nasty nasty disease but it can be beaten. {{{{Hugs}}}} to you from British Columbia, Canada.

bouquet of flowers - flowers
I am so sorry about your boyfriends father's situation. I am happy that they found the problem with his heart valve tho. Try to look at the bright side of this. I can't say that I have gone through something like this but I hope these flowers cheer you up.

Thank you for your comments. This isn't the first time this has happened to him. It happened once before a test. he was all prepared and the test machine broke down. They had to reschedule it.

I am sorry to hear about your boyfriends dad. I am glad they found the heart problem, being a nurse I know finding the problem after the prep has been started made the hospital look bad. I hope this works: Why does the Easter bunny have a shiny nose? His power puff is on the wrong end.

I am so sorry sugar. It is indeed quite sad, and stressful. Is he going to the Mayo clinic? My husband had stones, and by accident, they found his kidney was full of cancer. They removed the kindey, and it was packed. If it went untreated, he would not be here now. That was an accident that it was found. I'm saying a prayer right now for your boyfriends dad. God bless, Margieanne
