I have heard people say that ultrasound hurts the fetus. Then again, the doctors say that these days it is completely safe to have ultrasound done even at a very early stage of pregnancy. What are the myths and facts regarding this? Please help.
thanks in advance.

ultrasound is defintiely not harmful for the baby because that uses hiigh frequency sound waves only.
But thats not the case with an xray or other methodologies. The rays may affect the foetus and its not advisable to scan the foetus with any other methodology other than an ultrasound scan.
This information i got it from my doctor very recently since am going to ahve a kid in the next few months and am asked to come for an ultrasound scan almost every month.

Do you really think an ob/gyn doctor would do anything that might harm a fetus these days with the high payout of law suits? You might want to check out the education level and religious affiliation of the people who say that ultrasound is dangerous. The only people I've heard saying that are uneducated, highly religious, church of some cult or other members, and lets face it, they don't think that getting your kids vaccinated against polio is a good thing either.

When I was pregnant I asked my doctor if this ultrasound is safe. She said yes. According to her it's not true that the baby will get hurt. It's just that when the ultrasound is positioned on a baby's ear, he or she will feel irritated because of the sound. My OB told me that babies are hearing train-like sound.
