Borrowed and lost

Some time ago I borrowed a piece of jewelry from a friend of mine to wear in a party. Everybody appreciated it because it was so beautiful and gorgeous. On the way back home, I visited a relative's place and stayed overnight. The next day I came back home to find out that the jewelry was missing. I called up the relative to know if I left it at her place, but I was wrong. I trust this relative very much. I don't know where and how I lost it. How can I tell my friend that I lost her one of the favorite jewelries? I feel terribly ashamed and upset about the whole incident.
Please suggest.
Thanks in advance.

No choice really. You still need to tell her in the end. So maybe choose a day when she is in a good mood and break the news to her. :P

Oh gosh! I am so sorry, but the only thing you can do is tell her and hope she will forgive you! Friends I think are more important than jewelry, so please, please tell her as soon as possible. It will be easier than stewing on it and stressing yourself out over it, Trust me! Good luck and thanks for the post
