Once when I was a very small kid, playing by a small creek with mom watching me, I just happened to scream just like kids do when they play.
My aunt´s dog heard the scream and came running as fast as he could to see what was wrong. Then he stood and looked at me and saw that nothing dangerous had happened and thereafter walked away slowly.
I am sure he had rescued me if I had fallen into the water.
I think you have heard something similar about dogs, so please share it with us!!

My aunt lived in California and had four big turtles that lived under her house. Every day she would go out and feed them carrots and cabbage and stuff. She had a snauzer that paid no attention to them. Then my cousin moved in when she had her baby. One day she had the baby on a blanket in the back yard. My cousin ran into the house for something, and heard a terrific racket from outside, barking and growling and carrying one. Afraid that the dog was attacking the baby, she ran outside. The turtles had come out from under the house for their snack. The dog was standing between the baby and the turtles, protecting him!! We used to have a picture, it was so cute. If I can find it, I will post it.

When my brother was little he crawled out of the living room window while my mom was doing dishes and started walking towards the highway near our house. Luckily our dog also mananged to get out and she literally herded him back to the house. We later found out that our dog is part cattle-dog, so the herding made sense. I guess it just goes to show how strong some instincts can be in animals.

I love dogs, they are really loyal and sweet if you treat them right. We have four dogs, our oldest dog sleeps with my mother in her bedroom. One time my mom had a nightmare and my dog barks and barks at her loudly until she woke up. Something terribly just might happen if our dog didn't do that.

Some of the dog stories everyone is posting are just amazing! I don't have a dog story of my own, though. My dog (springer spaniel) is really lazy, he won't come when you call, and he has the whole backyard to run through but he stays in his lot. He's always been like that, and he won't do anything unless we get him and take him somewhere and then he flips out and gets crazy bursts of energy. He's not that loyal, but he is really sweet and friendly at least, and he loves everyone, even if he's just too lazy. It's not like he's really old, he's always been like this, and now he's eight or nine years old. But I wish I had my own great dog story to tell! Recently I got a new kitten for Christmas, she's about six months old. Of course if you've ever had a cat you know how they are... They never listen to you. :P By reading all these stories now I feel like I want a new puppy. But of course I don't need one and at this point with my other pets I can't take care of one. Anyway, I'm babbling and getting carried away. Thank you everyone for sharing your stories, I like reading them. Happy holidays!

the one that grabs my heart every time is this little dog we had. it loved my grandpa so much. it was a chiwahwah i cant spell it lol. that is as close as i get to sounding it out. lol. i was at school and my grandma was in the house getting dinner started. my grandpa was outside working on a car. we lived way out in the country and the drive and everything was gravel. my grandpa put the car up on jacks and crawled under it. as usal the dog was laying there watching him. the car slipped off the jacks and fell across my grandpa. keep in mind my grandpa was a good 275 all muscle but the way it fell it got his chest and he couldnt breath or move. the little dog ran back to the house and stood on the porch barking like mad. my grandma came to the door and told it to hush it was alwyas barking at birds and such. the littel dog just kept barking and running up and down the stairs looking at her. she knew somethine was different by the way he was acting so she followed him to see maybe if he got a snake or rabbit etc. he ran straight to the car. when my grandma saw she flipped out. we didnt have a phone and the nearest one was about 1 mile up the road at a neighbors house so she took off in the truck. the ambulance got there and the dog hadnt moved. he wouldnt move they ended up letting the dog go he had attached his self to my grandpa pant leg and was not letting go. the dog stayed at the hospital with him the whole time too.
