Clearance at Wal-Mart!

Love them or hate them, Wal-Mart does generally translate directly to low prices on cheap-to-mediocre goods, and on occasion rather high quality goods. As I do not enjoy the luxury of being wealthy enough to choose the "morally superior" shops, I do my shopping at Wal-Mart most of the time.
On occasion, even the world's biggest retailer screws up and buys too much of something or overprices it, and ultimately it doesn't sell like they'd hope. Despite the claim (from Wal-Mart themselves) that the store always just sells things as cheaply as possible, and doesn't bother with the "sales" events that other stores do, they do still bust out the clearance sales every once in awhile.
A week ago I was disappointed to see the "little" clearance section had been replaced with air conditioners (heh). This evening, I cheerfully discovered the clearance selection had actually been expanded to an entire aisle, both sides.
Impulse shopping is usually stupid, but it's hard to begrudge a dollar for a new umbrella :) What kinds of amusing deals and steals have you stumbled across in your local branch of the world's biggest retailer?

We don't have Wal-Mart in Australia but we have somewhat similar shops. Yesterday afternoon I called into Kmart and had a look at their little clearance area (a little two shelf rack that sits in an aisle, stuff is generally customer returns, store "damaged" stuff - no package etc, or exdisplay items.) Yesterday we picked up a microwave oven for AUD$70 (originally AUD$156.95) it was an exdisplay item, and it's only problem was it was missing the little thing that the plate sits on to spin. Our old one has been slowly dying but considering the fact that we probably only use it a couple of times a month, if that, we couldn't validate spending money on it, until yesterday. Problem easily fixed we just took the old microwaves spinny thing out and put it in the new one. Perfect. We often pick up the odd thing on that shelf.

I am also a big Walmart clearance shopper. I have realized that you have to check things over very carefully when buying clearance also. Clothing especially, for missing buttons, small holes ect. I just purchased a winter coat for my daughter to wear next year~ reg price $49, sale $7. I also hit the Walmart $1 rack and picked up a turtleneck for myself and 2 tops for my daughter.
KMart had a big sale a few weeks ago also. I bought a pair of jeans, jean jacket, 2 tops for daughter, winter coat, long underwear, sweater for husband and top for self. total sale $40~ the coat itself for reg price was $59!
I don't understand anyone who can pass up a bargain like that!

We don't have Wal-Mart in Singapore but we have similar stores. We don't have a special clearance section per se but we do have sales every now and then. Some sales are genuine in that things are really cheaper. Others are not. When I see things real nice and good, I may buy. I do impulse shop sometimes - and it is scary when you can't really afford it. :/

Beall's Outlets have the dot sales. I was so excited when I got to the register and bought a pair of jeans for a $1!!!! That's right a dollar!!!! I hit all the right dots that day! I was thinking I was going to be spending more than $50 for clothes that day and I walked out of there only spending $30. I got a couple of shirts and a couple of jeans, all on dot sales. Those are the best!

I will share a few tips with you for grabbing some of those deals.Wal-Mart likes to reset their stores about every three months at towards the end of the month for general merchandise.
Now , if you have a supercenter you can find some great deals on food products just before the first of the month. The reason why is that Wal-Mart does a monthly inventory on their fresh food areas. Produce Dept.,Meat Dept., Bakery, and Deli. These depts are required to count their product so usually they will mark it down.
