What do i need for my computer to connect to dsl?

I am not understanding this at all: My computer is connected to aol at the moment but i just signed on with dsl, i have had them before and still have the box thing i have tried everything but i dont understand it tells me a network cable is unplugged, i've tried everything possible to no avail! what should i do?

I totally understand your problem,,,i work from a dsl company.. might also be your ISP. I get a lot of calls regarding this problem. If that is the error message you are getting then do this steps:
1. check the connection.. make sure that the ethernet cable is plugged tightly to the modem and the computer. the modem is the box that you got.
2. If all cords are tight then checke your device manager.. check if the network card is working properly
3. If it is.. do an ipconfig.. if you get a 169... IP's or your not getting any IP's at all then there is somthing wrong witht the network card
4. call the manufacturer of the CARD or the NIC card
5. dont call the the internet service provider (ISP), they wont be able to help you. its a computer problem.
