How to find missing pets?

Does anyone know what the best way of finding my dogs would be? A little while ago we got our daughter a dog of her own - his name was Puppy, we had him for about 2 months before he wandered off & another of our dogs went with him (Molly, she's older & had been with us for about 7 years). I have put up notices & everything but there's no news. My partner & i have a feeling that someone has discovered them & taken them on as their own but i REALLY want them back. I don't think it's fair for someone not to put up a notice to say that they found someone else's pets, just so they don't have to give them back. Our other dog is incredibly lonely now too - her & Molly have been the terrible 2 for about 5 years now & all of a sudden she's by herself. Does anyone know of other ways i could get them back? Or do you think this is just a lost cause now?
