What do you think about mobile phones at all?

I remember the time, when their were no mobile phones at all. But even without it, you stayed in contact with friends and family. As it seems, a mobile phone should bring people together more and there also should be more communication. But is this really true? If I'm looking to the short messages I receive, I sometimes have to wonder, whether our language gonna die one day. People don't care about grammar and stuff at all anymore. I also feel a bit stressed from the mobile phone sometimes like... "why didn't you answer my short message/phone call right a way?" So, for me a mobile phone is not just always a great thing and I miss the times, when it was more peaceful and quiet without it :-) What's your opinion?

i've actually been resisting getting a cell phone. i would never get one minute's peace, especially from my mother. it's getting inevitable i get one though,as she gets older.

Wow, that's pretty amazing. But on the other hand, it doesn't surprise me, that you don't have a mobile phone. Like I said before, there was a time no one had a mobile phone and we still all survived :-) say hi to your mother anyway ;-)

I don't actually like them, I only got one out of necessity because of emergency i.e when I am out driving and if I break down then it's good to have a mobile with you then. I'll use it to text people but I'm not the person you see with it permanently sewn to their ear. My phone has loads of gadgets on it, but the only thing I use is the text facility so a high tech mobile is wasted on me! I've even still got a brand new one in the box sent as an upgrade, I still use my old one because I can't be bothered transferring all the numbers over etc and my old phone is better all round!

same here... I use Nokia 6288 and it has a lot of features, but actually I only use it so people can reach me or leave me a message. I could get the phone for cheap so that's why I have a pretty good one. Otherwise any other phone would work just as good for my needs.

my mobile phone has been out of action for a couple of months since I lost the charger so I haven't had one for a while. When I switched it on no one had contacted me so that just goes to show how popular I am. The most annoying thing for me was not having access to the phone numbers stored in it.

I have only had my cellphone for a few weeks now and the only reason I got mine for was because I have two elderly parents, and because I am on the computer a lot it is another way that they can get hold of me if it is urgent. I also have grandchildren living away and they text me a lot. I have always disliked what cellphones can do to ones life as I have seen relationships distroyed with the sneaky way that text messaging can be used, and also you have no privacy if you carry them everywhere you go. Yes they have their good points and bad ones as well, so I suppose it boils down to how you use the technology, or how the technology uses you.

I think we cannot survive without mobile phoens nowadays. We have to keep in touch with our friends and family, it seems that some people may even feel uncomfortable if the ydo not receive a phone call in one day. They need to have phone calls to keep them busy. I seldom use SMS because I just want to hear the voice of my friends when I want to have something to tell them.

true, true! yes, mobile phones get your messages quicker but it definitely doesn't get people closer. why? because everybody greets you on your birthday thru text. years back when there were no cellphones yet, people would call or visit you and you get to talk longer. now, all it takes is a short happy birthday message and they'd think their job is done. plus, there's the spelling issue. my sons know better than to text me using text language. they're told to spell out the words properly, if not, out go their cellphones.

see, that's exactly what I mean. I'm not against mobile phones, but sometimes it just makes me sad, if I only get a short message as a birthday greeting and I miss the good old times :-)

Well, I've had a cell phone for my whole adult life, and I must admit, it is a bit annoying to always be attached to your phone - people can get a hold of you 24/7. Sometimes I'd like a break, but then I think it's also a convenience.

I try to not attach myself to my phone. There are actually times I will turn it off just to avoid having people call me. Granted, I don't do that all the time, but you do need some "me time" in the day.

when mobiles finally got past the big lunky phase and became cheaper, sleeker i thought they were a fabulous idea! great for safety especially. but now i find it rather annoying more often than not. in fact i frequently turn the darn thing off..often for the whole weekend. and of course by the time monday rolls around there are messages with ppl freaking out, etc. besides not really liking to talk on phones as it is, i could do without one quite well. i think...lol

i cannot keep in contact with people without my mobile phone. It is the only phone i use. However, i do not text, so i generally do not have the same problem as you do with the horrible grammar and spelling...and whatever else. It's a little harder to come off as a complete moron when you are actually saying the words rather than texting things like "R U HM?"

I think you are right.. sometimes you are really not in the mood of getting calls, in a meeting or not close to your cell-phone... People think only because you have a cell-phone you should always be ready to answer their calls or messages. But I can't imagine living without my cell-phone now, maybe I got used to it. you can always turn it off when you don't want to answer other's calls :)

When I was growing up very few people had house phones let alone mobiles. I didn't have a mobile for a long time but my kids thought it was a good idea when I am driving. Mobiles do keep you in touch but it seems to me that it does away with a lot of person to person - face to face contact.

mobile phones are simply gadgets to be used... what i mean is, they are just instruments mainly to communicate, to connect people. what i can say in your notes is somewhat you're worried on the fact that people now are very much influenced by the rapid development and innovations that technology has brought, and mobile phones are just one of them, yet, they shouldn't be singled out as culprits. its us - its the people--- it would seem i must say that our values has declined a lot, many people do not observe values, from a simple gesture of courtesy of offering a seat to an old lady to practically running an office with no integrity at all. That even the way we communicate has been affected so much by this changing times. whether with mobile phones or not we can still coimmunicate well, communicate with a heart. Our miobile phones are just one of the means to attain this goal, it's still us, our value system that must always prevail... thanks for this opportunity of sharing my thoughts. hope this suffice for now. have a nice day!

well i think mobile should be used when neccessary not as a piece of luxury so that you just show how rich you are or listen to music through it it was developed to use when people could not reach other on time .

Hi there, I remember when there were no mobiles too! Then they were invented and they were so large you had to physically carry them around with a strap over your shoulder! Now, well, I think they're a good idea - but more than not they're very irritating. All those poxy ringtones going off in the cafe's, in the supermarket, even on the TV in the middle of an interview! lol. I have CDMA Nokia prepaid and I'll have to get a new phone next year when the network shuts down. I think I could live without one, but they are handy for emergencies. LOL

You are absolutely right the mobile phone sometimes gets on my nerves its a unseen chain that keeps you connected or i would say ties you with people when you just want to be left alone. I really dont care now and answer calls only when i wish too if asked my reply is simple was "busy".

Everywhere I go now, cellphones are the most common thing people do carry in their hands. It's like part of their body that without it they won't survive. I, myself, don't have a cellphone and I don't feel like I'm lacking something. Sometimes I would see boyfriend and girlfriend walking and then the girl is holding her cellphone doing some text messages, I think while the other one is talking to her. Sometimes there is one whole peer group hanging around in a restaurant and they are not talking to each other because they're all holding their cellphones and doing text messages I guess. I do consider mobile phones as barriers for real communication. Don't you think so?

All of technology always have two sides. The good, it makes everything easier. you can find poeple, share information, delivery job and you are able to know the one we care about in the real time. But for the consequences, we also will be disturbed by the poeple are feel the advantages and use it. My sugestion is You can have dedicated privet mobile number. So, clasify you community and share your number base on this. Good luck!
