I have done, but I always thank the person; not just with a simple "thank you" but specific thanks for their helpfulness, pleasant manner, going the extra mile, or whatever. I usually also pass my feelings on to the floor manager, service desk, or someone in authority.
If a company has gone out of its way to obtain an item, or given extra attention in some way, I will write to thank the company. I also write to companies about products: either to endorse the product or to make suggestions or to ask for something different.
I once wrote to a health products company concerning their capsules for osteoarthritis. I have had the joints removed from most of my fingers and silastic joints inserted. This means I cannot bend most of my fingers, apart from where they join the hands. I found it very difficult to open the bottles of capsules and wrote to the company saying that considering the product was for osteoarthritis, wouldn't it be better to supply the capsules in a blister pack or something easier to open. They developed, made, and sent me free of charge, a prototype of a special bottle opener. One end peeled off the security seal and the other end opened the bottle. It had a very large roll handle between the two ends, which made it easy to hold. I would never consider buying from other companies.

I have often thought about doing this but it somehow always slipped my mind. On the few occasions that a member of staff has been extra helpful, I have always slipped them a few euros just to show my appreciation and they were always delighted to accept.

I really do this. It is diffucult enough to find a clerk who's head you don't want to smack. So when there is a good one, or if I have received consistently good service somewhere, I do write a letter to the owner or the manger commending the staff. I always make sure to put the persons name on the letter and I suggest a raise as well. lol

Yes I do, because there is always the possibility that the person involved may get a pay rise, or promotion because of it. If someone works hard, and does something "beyond the call of duty" then i think it ought to be noticed and appreciated!

I have done that on a couple of occasions..When someone has been extra helpful I have sometimes taken a packet of biscuits in so they can have on their tea break or a box of chocs on a special occasion..Good manners and appreciating people doesn't cost much does it? It's these little niceties that make the world a better place don't you agree?

I don't write a letter of thanks to them, but I do tell the person who is helping me how much I appreciate them. I tell them in person. There are so many mean and rude people out there in this world these days. I will go out of my way to let someone know how kind they are and how greatful I am of them. I let them know that they did a very good job and that I wish there were more people just like them in the world. I thank them for the pleasant experince and I wish them a very good day.
