This is NOT a good way to train a dog!! 1. Never repeat a command. If you say it, stick with it till they do it. 2. Never punish a dog for "getting it wrong". If you treat your dogs right they WANT to do what you ask but they don't understand what you want. You can't blame them for not speaking our language.

If my dog ignores my command I know that I will need to spend more time going over commands for the next couple of days. She is five years old and when I adopted her as a four month old puppy I began training basic skills, sit, come, etc. Once she mastered all the commands I needed her to learn I quit training with treats all the time and only gave treats randomly. She has been acting up lately since I have been spending less time with her and when I give her a command, especially, go to bed, she ignores me and wants to continue playing. I get stern with her and then she obeys but I need to put her though Basic Training again for a reminder.

When we got our last dog TaTa she had absolutely no training. We work with her on a daily basis going over her training. We repeat commands several times. When we first started with the command sit. We would say the cammand and lightly push her butt down to the floor. When she would complete the command I would give her a hug and a treat telling her what a good job she did. I like to give my dogs a lot of encouragement so that they understand that they are doing an excellant job.

If he doesn't respond it's simply because he doesn't yet understand what you're telling him to do (he doesn't speak our language, yanno? LOL). If he's ignoring you then there's obviously not enough motivation for him to pay attention.
Does your dog go really nuts for some kind of treat? Then only give him that treat during training time. Guide him to do the things you want by leading him with the treat and only give it to him when he performs the correct motion.
