Everyone needs to earn the respect they want from others. I used to think that we need to respect our elders. But as I grow older, I realise that a lot of old people, especially many here in my country, take respect for granted. The have the worst manners, behave badly & rudely then expect people to respect & give in to them just because they are old.
Such people I will give way or give in to them, but I will not respect them.

Yes I do. I think they deserve to have respect. I think that everyone is taught that, just some forget as they enter adulthood. My kids know that they are to, and I was brought up to do the same. I give respect to all those that are older then me.

I don't respect just elders, but people younger than me as well, thats if they show some form of respect. If there rude, etc. to me, then they don't deserve the same respect they themselves are dishing out.

basically, i will respect everyone, even those who are older than me..but it depends, some people tend to think that because they are older, they will be bossy and direct people around (this is the type of older people that I wont respect)

Respect is an attitude of acknowledging the feelings and interests of another party in a relationship, and of treating as consequential for the self the helping or harming of the other. Though most commonly referring to interpersonal relationships, it can be used between animals, groups and institutions including countries. Respect does not necessarily imply deference, but a respectful attitude rules out unconsidered selfish behaviour. The concept of respect predates, and does not rely on, the existence of the concept of rights. Like the Golden Rule, treat others the way you want to be treated.
i show respect to everyone regardless of a person age.

I was raised to respect my elders so that's what I practice. Answering this question makes me think of how disrespectful kids are today with their teachers, and I mention teachers because some of them talk back like no bodies business. I know kids are like that towards their parents but parents have more say so.
