Do you think spouses should have separate accounts?

Are you the better money manager or is it your husband. I am better with managing money because I majored in finance so I pretty much handle the balancing the checkbook thing. We do have separate accounts but my husband would mess up his money so I encourage him to put most of the money in my accout. What do you think?

i think a couple should have three major accounts. they each should have their own account and then they should have a household account that is for bills and food what ever moneies it takes to run your household. you can also have a joint savings account because a couple saving together toward a common goal is a very powerful thing

That's a great idea as well.

I think it is far better to have your own account and keep it as your own then that way there will be no argument about who has what and if the worse came to the worse then on divorse there will be less hassle on the splitting up of the accounts. Have a nice day from Deeeky

When you look at it that way.. if you plan on getting a divorce, separates accounts work well.

My husband and I have separate accounts. But, we also opened a joint account after we got married, and we use that for paying all our bills. It's worked so far. I am not against spouses just have a joint account. But for us, it works to have separate ones as well. For one, we don't always have to check with each other about spending the money in our own accounts, which is only 5% of our individual incomes. I like that we maintain separate accounts.

I do because no relationship is never promised tommorow. I have a back up account just in case he ever decides tommorow he doesnt wanna be here, then me and the kids wont be left with questions. I do handle our bills and money but you just never know.

We have always shared an account - it's just easier I guess. I manage the money, because he just sucks at it, but we both have access to all the money. Of course, I am known to open random savings accounts and deposit money whenever I feel like it, so he often doesnt have a clue where our money is. If I were to suddenly die, he would be a very poor man!!

No matter you earn more or less than your husband,we'd better have separate accounts.we can use money together for buying house or another things .we should control the expense under what we can endure. Most spouses have their own different life,so we should have separate accounts.

Everyone needs to learn how to be better money managers just in case. We can't depend on others forever
