Childproofing your home during parties

I have a big house. It is two storeyed. We often have parties and a lot of people gather around. We love gatherings. Kids are also invited and they love to play and run in the open wide spaces. How do I childproof the kitchen, the staircase, the garage, the bathrooms and all the other rooms when I am having a party? Sometimes, during parties, it becomes very difficult to keep an eye on what the kids are doing.
Please suggest.
Thanks in advance.

This, oddly enough, ended up being the same solution to the problem of 'college proofing' a house for a college party. The first part is to delegate which portions of the house are OFF LIMITS, and which portions are open for the party. Be clear about it. If you leave the party area, you're going home. With kids, if they're caught where they shouldn't be, having them stop playing is punishment enough.
Now that you've got a basic idea for where you want the activity to be, go and remove all of the stuff that:
- could easily be broken
- isn't appropriate to have out with children around
- could possibly cause an injury
- could potentially be the source of a HUGE mess
Basically, just use common sense. If the kids know where they're allowed to play, what they can and can't play with, and have (at least) minimal supervision, there shouldn't be any issues.
