Friend or foe?

There are lot of internet sites to make friendship. They gather up all your information about your private and public lives and educational qualifications. But are they really good for you? You do not know the true identity of the person you are making friendship with. Would you share your personal feelings, your personal life and your private secrets with that person? What if that person harms you instead? It will then be all your fault, is it not?
Please suggest what to do when you get friendly invitations over the net.
Thanks in advance.

I have learned to be very, very careful about what information I give out over teh Internet.
I try and keep my important personal details to myself, and rarely give email addresses out to people.
If I need to give an email address ut, I usually give out a disposable Hotmail address to people until I know them well enough to trust them.
I have made perhaps 10 close friends 'online' in over 20 years of using bulletin boards and the Internet - by close I mean people who know my real name and family details.
I've made a number of 'drinking buddy' type friendships - but these people don't know much more about me than my first name.
I try to be very private.

I would be very careful about giving out personal data on the internet because one can never know how it would be used or worse leaked out to the wrong people who could use it against you.
Usually, I'd just say thanks for the invitation but that I'm not really too keen to join the site. Usually my friends will understand and respect my decision.
