I wanted to make Spring Break really memorable for my kids last week, so we planned a trip for the coast last weekend. We stayed at seaside beach which is on the Northern Oregon Coast. We went to a state park close to seaside called Ecola State Park to see if we would have any luck at whale watching. With binoculars in hand, it was not long before we were able to see the water spouts of the gray whales on their northern migration.
During our 2 hour long stay were able to catch sight of many whales, especially from the lookout point. The best viewing came from looking through the telescopes, you could see some whales in greater detail, depending on their activity. It is an experience I will never forget and something I thought I would never see. Our timing was apparently perfect, that Sunday was the last day of an annual Spring Whale Watch week along the Oregon coast with many lookout points. According to the website for whale watching week more than 2,600 whale sightings were counted for the week!!
Have you ever gone whale watching or ever wanted too?
If you ever get a chance..I recommend it ..seeing the migration is really spectacular!!

That sounds so incredibly cool! Whenever I see those programs that talk about whales and whale watching I always tell my husband that I want to go on a cruise and do that. I thought it would be cool to go someplace like Alaska. I don't know if that will ever happen though.

Whale watching was something I never fathomed I would have the opportunity to do!! It was amazing seeing the whales so close to the coast. It was a simple as paying for the price of State park admission for the day, finding a great spot on the lookout and having a pair of binoculars and access to a telescope!!Everyone should have an opportunity to see these incredible animals during migration.

That must have been so awesome to see that! What an experience for your kids, one I hope that they will remember for a lifetime. I have never gone whale watching. I have gone out on a fishing boat and seen dolphins but that was about it. That would be so nice to go on a vacation similar to where you went. Maybe someday, I will have that chance. Thank you for sharing your experience!
