That is the reason I became a writer to begin with. Back in my early days as a budding journalist, I interviewed the director of a play. He was brusque and hurried and we didn't really connect during the interview. After the story came out, he summoned me to his office and proceeded to tell me, "I was offended they sent you to interview me. To be frank, you give the impression of being a redneck moron who doesn't know how to dress himself." I grinned and said, "Don't hold back. Tell me how you really feel." He shook his head and said, "I loved the article you did on me. You're a brilliant writer. But nobody will know that if you don't learn to present yourself better." He spent the next month giving me lessons on dressing and speaking. I still can't do well in front of audiences, but I'm better at talking to people one-on-one. To this day, though, I'm much more impressive in print than in person.

For me it always depends on the situation. I can write better then speak, and in a one to one situation,if it has any importance, I'm hopeless, as well as in small talk in groups.
There I'm always very quiet. - On the other hand, when I'm forced to find solutions I can talk very persuasively.
And I have never had problems holding a well prepared speech in front of a group - just in working it out in writing before often.

Speaking to a group of people is a stressful experience for most people - I have to say I'm pretty good at it but I still find it nerve-wracking!
I think on the whole I prefer to write my thoughts down if I have to share them with people - I can get my ideas over better in writing than I can in front of a crowd.
However, people have told me that I'm quite a persuasive speaker, so eprhaps I'm not as bad as I think I am.

i guess ur right.
since u get little more time to think when u writing than when u speak, it is always that u could and would have an opportunity o be moe selective with words and phrases and communicate more clearly...all becoz of the mind havin a lil more to ponder over.
