I guess I am just weird....

I love people, they fascinate me with their quirks and personalities because each person is so unique. I enjoy them from afar however because I can honsetly say I do not care for people, they can be very cruel, they lie, they try to one up you on everything, and they are jealous when you do something good in your life. I do not have any very close friends and I like it that way, am I just weird? I find that the older I get the less and less likely I am to strike up a conversation with someone because i do not want to deal with all the problems associated with knowing them. I have had many bad expeiences with friends over the years and now I do not even want to bother anymore with taking the chance to be hurt again. Why do we still try to be close with people when 9 times out of 10 the person will hurt or decieve you in some way. In the future I see myself living in the middle of nowhere, completely alone and loving it.

I really only have one friend and that's my wife, she's my best friend. Other than that i have acquaintances. I really don't like a majority of the people i work with, so i only see them at work. There might be maybe, maybe two or three i would do something with, occassionally but that's it.

Thanks for the reply, I just hate it when these odd topics that I come up with sit there with no responses ;)
It is really nice to hear that your wife is your best friend, even that is becoming rare these days.

Hey, momoffour!
Sorry to hear about your bad experiences, esp. with friends! I also LOVE observing people from afar. I'm a bit of a loner, so I don't like mingling with strangers or new people too often. Once in a while it's OK, but if it's done too often, I feel drained.
However, I think I've been lucky in the friends dept. I've had 6 close friends who're still close to me now and I must say that they never do anything bad to me. That's why I still keep in touch with them. :-))) Sure there have been some conflicts, but we've managed to set things right and clear up the misunderstandings. :-))))

My life is a little different because I must mingle at certain events/parties because of my husband's field.
My personality is such that I prefer to be out and among people. I find it to be healthy and stimulating. I have more acquaintances than actual friends and that's the what I prefer.
You are exactly right about friends who hurt. Have had that done to me also many times. Makes it difficult to trust again.
If you are happy and content staying home and being alone, nobody has the right to criticize your lifestyle. I don't believe you are weird.
