A few days ago I posted a discussion asking if anyone was familiar with the Tenebrae Service, a few members were but several expressed an interest so this is how our Tenebrae Service went at church this evening. Pastor Opened with prayer At the end of each scripture reading a candle was blown out and house lights are dimmed a bit more with each. Hymn - The Solid Rock Matthew 26 - (Mat 26:1-5) The rulers conspire against Christ. (Mat 26:6-13) Christ anointed at Bethany. (Mat 26:14-16) Judas bargains to betray Christ. Hymn - Am I a Soldier of the Cross? (Mat 26:17-25) The Passover. (Mat 26:26-30) Christ institutes his holy supper. Holy Communion Hymn - Jesus, Thy Blood and Righteousness (Mat 26:31-35) Christ warns his disciples. (Mat 26:36-46) Christ’s agony in the garden. (Mat 26:47-56) Christ is betrayed. Hymn - Who is He in Yonder Stall? (Mat 26:57-68) Christ before Caiaphas. (Mat 26:69-75) Peter denies Christ. (Mat 27:11-25) Christ before Pilate. Hymn - Where He Leads Me (Mat 27:26-30) Barabbas loosed, Christ mocked. (Mat 27:31-34) Christ led to be crucified. (Mat 27:35-44) Christ is crucified. Hymn - O Sacred Head, Now Wounded (Mat 27:45-50) The death of Christ. Matthew 27:50 Then Jesus cried out with a loud voice again and gave up his spirit. The last candle was blown out and the congregation left in darkness and silence. When that last candle went out I could feel Christ's Spirit fill the room, tears rolled uncontrollably and I am emotionally drained but feel so blessed to have taken part in this service. We must never ever forget that Christ died on the cross for each one of us. May the Lord bless and keep you all.

Thanks for sharing this Faith. I'm surrounded by people who do not have Christ in their lives. I had to tell my boss why he should shut the bowsers down today and not sell anything. He still wemt out and baled hay. I walked up to our church to participate in a vigil but the church was locked. It's Good Friday here. I feel very strange.

Wow that sounds like one powerful service. It must have been so quite when that last candle was blown out. I almost cried reading what you wrote. It would be emotionally draining to take part in such a powerful service.

Hi Byfaithonly, I remember your discussion in regards to Tenebrae service that you would be attending, it sounds like it was very interesting and appropriate for this time of the year when we have to remember our Lord. I bet that God's spirit was in the room with you and the rest of the congregation. God Bless you as well my friend

That sounds like a lovely service. I love Easter and what it represents. I am so greatful the Jesus Christ loved me and he loved me enough to die for my mistakes that I would make. I know I cannot never fully repay him and I know that he must cry alot when I mess up but I am greatful that I have the opportunity to be forgiven when I make mistakes.

I am so thankful that you didn't let the new changes on MyLot keep you from being one of God's precious messengers. You are a true reflection of Christ's light, and you're needed here.

This is a beautiful spiritual service and it does fill you with love and hope for mankind, to feel what Jesus went through on his way to the cross. It really makes me wonder if I could have done this, I know I could never have been so brave and strong enough in faith. Not only did he endure pain and suffering, he took on the whole sin of the world, and to have his Heavenly Father have to turn away from him while it happend always tugs at my heart. Enjoy your Easter Sunday service.

I appreciate that you shared that here. I remember the discussion you started and I was very interested as how a service like that was performed. From the sounds of your experience it sounds like it was very spiritually charged and everyone there was touched by the reminder what Christ did for everyone of us. It would emotionally drain you. Those were very hard hours for Christ. And for us to be reminded of it is very essential so that we fully understand to the human capability of being able to what kind of supreme sacrafice Christ made for us. You were blessed to be able to go to a service like that. Faith, thanks again for sharing that very special experience.
