Have you ever made an appointment with a new doctor and when you get there the receiptionist hands you papers to fill out and she tells you that the doctor will review your information and let you know if he'll except you as a patient. This makes me so mad. I feel like I'm filling out a job application, and doesn't the doctor actual work for us. We pay him so in my book that makes him my employee and shouldn't he have to fill out papers for me to see if I think he is qualified to manage my health needs? Why is it that I sit in the waiting room for 45 minutes and then he spends less then 15 minutes with me. I realize that his time is valuable but guess what so is mine. Does anybody else feel this way or am I just being unrealalistic?

Hi, I am a doctor (an ophthalmologist) myself, and at our clinic, we do let new patients fill up forms for their pertinent information (like personal information, history of previous illness, family illnesses etc.) but we do not refuse patients based on that. What I do is that when I feel that the case is better handled by somebody else I explain to the patient why. But that decision is made only after I have examined and talked to the patient, not before. I do not know how the receptionist explained that to you though, and if she meant it the way you understood it.

Hi, thank you for your comment and thank goodness that there are doctors like you out there. I used to work for a doctor as an assistant so I have some understanding of how a doctors office works. I had taken my mother-in-law to this doctor's office and when this receptionist said this I was just floored to say that this lady was rude is a huge understatement. At first I thought that maybe I misunderstood her but as I sat there and listened to her deal with other patients I couldn't believe some of the things that came out of her mouth. This lady acually redused one lady to tears.I told my mother-in-law we were leaving and that I would find her another doctor which we did.

Oh, that is appalling! As a doctor, I would not want that kind of a receptionist either, because that would not speak well of me too.
