I think that steam trains are a lovely, slow and romantic way to travel. You can see some beautiful scenery as the train moves gently along if you travel by day. It is very relaxing to go to sleep on a train at night time. Trains makes me drop to sleep quite easily. I know when I wake up I will have reached my wonderful destination.
I live in the UK and we have quite a few steam trains. My favourite is the West Somerset Railway. It runs past old cottages and green field down to the coastline. It is a charming journey.
I have travelled on some wonderful trains in Europe. The best were trips in Norway past blue fjords and through the green forests of Sweden.
In Kenya it took a magical overnihgt journey on train. I saw giraffes whilst eating breakfast.
Australia has some great long trips. I would love to go on The Trans Siberian Railway. I am sure it would be amazing to travel for a week from Moscow to Beijing. I would stop off in Mongolia on the way.

I've only been on a few steam trains in my lifetime, as there aren't really that many still existent in the world today. One of the steam engine trains that I rode on was in Snowdonia Park in Wales, UK, and I'm not sure that it was necessarily romantic (although in the right atmosphere, it certainly could have been), but it was a great family experience!

I think they are portrayed as glamorous which gives them the air of romance.
I've never seen a steam train in real life; The Hogwart's Express is the closest I have ever come to seeing one and I'm sure loads of kids think travelling on a steam train to a magic castle is romantic

Yes, I do! I think that would be a nice relaxing way to travel too. I have always wanted to go on the one that goes across Canada, but I cant remember which one that is. I just heard good things about it.
