I've found the best way to keep in shape is by always being busy. Too many times had i taken sometime off only to find that i spent most of it inside getting bored and subsequently eating too much. The busier you are, the more your metabolism kicks into gear and even if you eat as much you won't keep it as much. Even just a little exercise, like in my case the occasional game of Frisbee goes a long way.
If you're really serious about dieting though, there's a plethora of helpful websites you can use.
Sparkpeople.com was one that helped me out over the summer when i was working a desk job. It helps you set realistic goals, as opposed to crash dieting that usually ends up causing binging.

It is embarrassingly annoying to look in the mirror and behold what looks like an amoebic stranger. While obesity is repulsive to sight, it is also dangerous to health. When I got overweight relative to my height (my body mass index-BMI- was approaching 30 then), I had to consider the situation an emergency. I cut back on fat/oil, sugar, creams, red meat, poultry skin, heavy and/or frequent meals, soft drinks, dairies, and such like. I also started on a routine of regular exercises such as walking and tabble tennis. I still follow the strict dietary and exercise regimens up to now so as to maintain a BMI of 23 that I have attained. I feel much lighter and healthier now.
