Optical Outlet

For those of you in Florida you might have seen ads for Optical Outlet. To the best of my knowledge they are only here in Florida but if they are elsewhere perhaps others might want to know on this. I went to them last year for contacts and glasses. It was a nightmare. After six months I still did not have a final prescription. The glasses I had I couldn't wear because the script in them was wrong but they would only tell me "You have to wear them and get used to them". The contacts I had weren't right but they were refusing to correct them any more. I went round and round with them for a long time in trying to get a pair that worked. After all this I wrote to them via the internet a couple of times and then talked with a supervisor. They did give me my money back and I had to go elsewhere but this did not make up for the frustration, waste of gas going back and forth, or the fact that I had trouble seeing for six months.
Anyone else out there have problems with them or any other eye place?

Good morning Emeraldisle,
Thanks for sharing this info about businesses to avoid.
I don't wear glasses or contacts, so I do not have any tales to share about either excellent or terrible service.
But, what I did want to share is a wonderful resource I love to check when I'm investigating a new product, or service provider. It's called the Rip-off Report, otherwise known as the Bad Business Bureau. They're web address is: http://www.ripoffreport.com
It's a great place to warn others of businesses to be wary of, and to check to see if a business that you are considering doing business with, is listed.
It's kind of taking the helping hand you offered by warning others about Optical Outlet, one step farther. Plus, it's actually pretty funny to read some of the complaints.

I've heard both good and bad about Wal-marts. It probably depends on the doctor at each one more then anything else.

Oh my goodness!! That is a lot of crap to go through! Well I guess it is good at the very least that they did give you your money back! Thankfully I haven't had any problems with the place I go to (in Walmart). I feel for you. Maybe now though you can get some that will be right for you. Six months is a long time to wait though!

I went to Lindsey Optical last week and got my finals today after they double checked them all. Lindsey is a small store here. I think I'm going to stick with the non-chain ones at least for the testing. Might go to wal-mart for actualy buying the contacts since they just order the boxes.

It's probably a good idea. Cause you know the smaller places will be more selective with their hiring. Plus it's good to support our local businesses :)

I got a pair glasses a few years ago at walmart and they were not the right RX. I had a terrible time conviencing them that they were wrong. Finally I had to go to another Dr and got a slip saying there were wrong. Both my daughters got wrong RX at Walmart optical too. None of us knew that the other one had till we were talking about it. So 3 wrong out of 3 is not a good thing for them.

Wow! I haven't been to Wal-Mart yet for service so can't say on that one. I have been to Sears and the contacts were good there but they were on the high side for their services. So far the best luck I've had have been with the non-chain ones.

Well that sucks! I would think an optical place would want to get it right so that you could see correctly and pass on a positive word! Glad you were able to get your money back, but what about all the other people who might not fight them or complain? That is just terrible - you might want to report them to the BBB too as an added step.
I've only used Sam's Club and did not have any problem at all. They were alot cheaper and had all the things I wanted, as well as a comprehensive eye exam. They will also repair for free any problems that come up with your frames or lens.

I'm going to be checking on Sam's Club to get the contacts themselves. Now that I have the script I can go anywhere for the contacts and I plan to shop around for those to get the best price.
