Most of the time a stiff neck is just do to the normal wear and tear of using your neck. You will want to avoid the movements or positions that caused the problem. Also you could try exercising the muscle (I know its gonna hurt!) or getting a massage could also help.
If you have had a fever, headache or trouble looking at bright lights your stiff neck could be due to Meningitis and would be something you need to go to your doctor for ASAP.

Luckily, I don't feel any headaches and fever yet. My eyesights are still good. But if that will occur, Oh my, I should really see my doctor immediately. Thank you so much for the advice.

I use a rice bag on my neck. You fill a sock with a cup or two of rice, tie off the end and then cover with the other sock and tie off. Then heat for 2 minutes more or less depending on your microwave. Place it on sore muscles. It is a great thing for them.
Another good thing to do is lie on your back with a towel rolled up behind your neck. It removes the pressure and allows your neck to relax.
Hope these help!

Well here are some postures to immediate relief . I got these in a daily mail health newsletter .
POSTURES FOR ACUTE PAIN RELIEF
* Lie on your back with a soft(feather) pillow and a small towel roll under your neck with your knees bent and supported by large pillows.
* Lie on your side with a soft (feather) pillow and a small towel roll under your neck.
* When you sit add pillows so you can rest your head back comfortably and place a pillow under your arms.
* How big should the pillow be? Exactly where do I put the pillow? Use what gives you the best pain relief. ( We are all a little different.)
* Good posture means ear, shoulder & hip are in a straight line - this is the same for standing, sitting & lying down.

My recipe for healing a stiff neck is:
1. Use a heatpad or hot towel and place it around your neck and shoulders to loosen up the muscles for 15 minutes.
2. Neck stretches by placing one hand on your head and pull away from the tense muscle, hold it for 15-30 seconds, to a point of tension and not pain. Repeat for various angles.
3. Ask a loved one to give you a neck and shoulder massage.
4. Deep breathing/meditation will help as well.
5. Go on a vacation.
Notes about stiff neck:
1. Usually due to strees and improper sleeping position.
2. The cause of stiff neck is not necessary from the neck, it could be from tensions of the shoulders and upper back.
3. Medication is just curing the symptoms and not fixing the cause. So, if you want to get rid of stiff neck find out the cause of it.
Hope this will help. Good luck.

Neck pain may be caused by an injury to one or more of these areas, or it may have another cause. Home treatment will often help relieve neck pain caused by minor injuries.
Neck pain is often caused by a strain or spasm of the neck muscles or inflammation of the neck joints.

for the last few days my husband was complaining about stiff neck. he was groaning in pain and it hurts me so much to see him like that. :(. last night, i gave him a warm compress and a back and shoulder massage. He fell asleep while my arms are so sore :). Tonight if his neck aches still continue, i will try the rice bag approach. I told my hubby not to depend too much on medication because he will only be addicted to it. he is now considering being more active and doing some exercises like neck bending everyday.:)

O Dear! I would like to ask some questions, would be helpful to know the actual reason. Have you changed pillow or bed? Have you gone through some tension for recent past days? I think you have been unrested for some while or some tension lest have confronted, ammm I guess. Well, if you have tried mefanamic acid, I would suggest you to go for another salt called nimsolide... and if possible piroxicam gel would also be effective if some strain is there. But frankly, a physician knows well rather to be self medication ;) God bless you!
