What kids' shows drive you to change the channel and why?

I was just changing the channel because Teletubbies came on, and I was wondering what shows drive other people nuts to the point where they will change the channel. For me, it's Teletubbies, Barney, Boobah, Dora the Explorer, and that Diego show. I can't stand those shows. Teletubbies and Boobah because they just don't make sense, and I want my child to learn to speak, not do whatever noises those..things.. are making. Barney's just too danged cheerful, and I can't stand his voice. Dora the Explorer and Diego both grate on my nerves because of the whole 'make the US learn Spanish because the illegals refuse to learn English' thing (around here illegals are a very big problem). Bob the Builder is about to make my list if I have to listen to Scrambler say "Awwwwesommme!" any more. Okay, 'fess up. Which shows drive you nuts and make you change the channel?

I actually have Dora the Explorer and Go Diego Go! blocked on my tv so that no one can watch them. I have them blocked because my kids should not have to learn Spanish because the illegals who are SNEAKING over here refuse to learn English, which just happens to be the language over here, so now we have to learn Spanish just to be able to talk to people. The other thing that pisses me off is that we have people over here from other countries like Germany and people that speak French but yet there isn't a show on tv with those languages. I would let my kids watch that.

See, I do not mind the kid's shows because my two are really good when they get to watch TV, so I just tune it out. My husband on the other hand cannot stand the kids shows. He hates the Wonder Pets on Nick and will leave the room or change it to some sports show if it comes on. I think the one I dislike the most is Dora, she is very annoying. But on the other hand, her and Spongebob are my kids faves, so maybe because it seems that she is all we watch. Maybe I am just burned out, hopefully they will find new faves sometime soon so I do not have to hear her as much, we will see.

I agree with you on Teletubbies and Barney. I have always thought Teletubbies are just plain creepy. And Barney has just always gotten on my nerves. I can handle Dora ok. I've never watched Boobah or Diego. Another show that gets on my nerves is Handy Manny on the Disney Channel. I'm not sure why but I can never sit and watch it. And there is another one on Disney I can't stand watching I think it's Charlie and Lola. The cartoon just seems really whiny to me.

Ugh. I'd just gotten the Dora the Explorer theme out of my head. thanks for putting it back in. I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. I kind of like Dora and Diego ... or at least the idea of kids learning other languages. Then again, I tend to dabble in every language I hear just because I like to play with them. However, I will hurt myself rushing to switch away from Spongebob Squarepants. All the characters ugly. Their voices are annoying and the whole show is just freakin' stupid on all known levels.

I agree with you Teletubbies is crazy. Are we teaching our children to talk that way when we let them watch that???? I ended up telling my 4 yr old (at the time) that teletubbies was for babies, and you couldn't understand what they were saying anyway. i also don't like spongebob, i think it has bad language for kids. i don't want my child learning to call someone stupid from a cartoon.

To start with, I wanted to address an issue that I see in a lot of the responses to this posting. We are not teaching our children Spanish because of illegals that are here, we are teaching them a second language that is of a country close to ours. We also teach French, German, Italian, Ukranian, Japanese, Chinese, and a multitude of other languages. Are you going to say that you hate shows like that as well, because there are people here in this country that don't know English from those countries as well? Why not pick on them as well? Why single out one country? These shows are great for kids, and I wholly support them. I love watching Dora and Diego with my girls. My 5 year old is part Hispanic, so I guess it might be a bit of a sore spot for me. Barney? He's great for teaching manners and may other things. I may not be able to stand him, but why knock something that works? Are you going to boycote things that they're learning in school because it's multicultural? That's what you're doing here. Teletubbies is a show that is for babies that haven't really learned to talk yet. And the videos from that show on their bellies have things that promote nature and learning. I have 3 kids, and have been taking care of my younger siblings since I was 13. These shows teach things that we can't always teach with the way our work schedules are. They aren't for adults, they're for children. Stop thinking with a closed mind, and open it up to get past social degradations, and stop teaching your kids that it's wrong to learn something new. This is for the majority of the things that I've read in here, not any single thing. It's being bigoted and childish to say things that are so racist, and shows just how immature people really still are in this day and age, when they're supposed to be the grown ups. You can learn a lot of things from kids today. Open your eyes, and pay attention, for it's these kids that are learning to co-exist in situations like this that are going to run our country and take care of us in our old age. Show others respect, and maybe you'll get it in return.

Damn, i don't think I'm gonna argue with that, i don't have any kids yet so it doesn't really matter what i think anyways, i just wanted my response to get a laugh or two.

The only ones I've seen of those you've mentioned are Teletubbies, Barney, and Dora--and I have no problem with those whatsoever. In fact, I think that they're delightful! The so-called kiddie show that got on my nerves was PeeWee's Playhouse. It always seemed very mindless to me as if it were trying to teach kids NOT to focus on anything. For instance, PeeWee would start playing a cartoon but wouldn't finish it. Guess I just got spoiled by growing up in the age of Captain Kangaroo. I think that "entertainment" like PeeWee's Playhouse is a great recipe for fluffy brains where kids are being raised to land like flies on pieces of life without staying on each piece long enough to really study and analyze it. If you don't study and analyze life, you're in danger of missing important cues and clues...

I don't like Teletubbies and find the show pointless and don't see how a child can learn from all that tinky winky talk! My 4 year old doesn't even like it. And Barney is another one I hate and will try to turn the station before my daughter even knows it's on because she does like him, but he bugs me, he is to cheerful! And another show that really is annoying is a show called Hi-5, but I have to deal with that because my kids love that show. As for Dora the Explorer & Diego, I watch those shows with my kids and I think they are good learning shows. I don't mind them at all.

I actually love Dora and Diego. It has nothing to do with "the illegals that won't learn English". I think it is good for children to be exposed to other languages. It can really benefit them as they get older since many English/American words are derived from other languages. Spelling isn't nearly as difficult is you know a word's origin. The shows I can't stand are (and I don't even know if all of them are still on) Sponge Bob Square Pants, CatDog, Ed Edd and Eddy, Teletubbies, Rubber Dubbers, and Barney.

I understand your point about the benefits of learning other languages to help understand word origins, and I agree with it. But if that's the major benefit we want to take advantage of, then the kids need to be learning Latin, not Spanish.

Hmmm, I agree about Teletubbies. Drives me bloody frekin' crazy. I don't mind Diego, Dora, or Handy Manny because, even though I don't think we should HAVE to learn Spanish, understanding another languadge is a valuable and very employable skill that I will not deny them. The one's that get me: Brandy and Mr. Whiskers, Mr. Meaty, and Spongebob Squarepants. Basically...the gross ones.

I'd have to say the Teletubbies. That show drives me insane. That show is strange.... It makes me wonder who thought of such a thing. Every time I hear one of the Teletubbies scream, "Again, again!" My mind goes into a panic mode as I search for my remote control. Unfortunately, the panic makes me fumble; thus, making my progression in changing the channel even slower.

My major beef with the majority of kids shows is just about everything about them. Most of the time i just feel insulted that anyone would think I'd let my own child watch any of that crap. Whatever happened to the classic kid shows that i grew up on, like Sesame Street and Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. I remember hating Barney with a passion since i was 5 or so. Dinosaurs are extinct, and Barney should really join his ancestors. Blues Clues is awesome though, until Steve overdosed.. That was a sad day in kid show history.

I have to disagree about Dora and Diego... those two shows have been real good for my 2 year old, so I don't bother to change the channel. My child cant even stand barney(thank God), but the one that I absolutely can't stand, the one I always change is "the upsid down show" on noggin..

I think its great for kids to learn other languages so I really like Dora and Diego. I dont mind barney. Boobahs were the stupidest show I had ever seen but when my daughter was a baby she was in love with them. My kids have never watched teletubbies but my sister gave me this cute little dipsy teletubbie costume and my son wore it to the story hour halloween party at our local library yesterday. He looks adorable! My son loves Bob the builder!

Well I love most of the show you said plus B1 and B2. Anyway, "high five" is the kid show that really makes me change the channel and irritates me. I don't really like the show even they make some stories or something stupid.. I just don;t like how they portray those characters. I don't think they fit for childre.

I don't like teletubbies...That's probably the only show that I really don't like. And I do agree with the problem with illegals. And I notice that here in Florida EVERYTHING is in English AND Spanish...

Yes, I completely agree with you. Teletubbies made absolutely no sense at all. All they did was to run around their beautiful garden and the next thing you know is that the show is over.
