I use a linux server to host my websites. I prefer Linux because of it's stability plus I know my was around cPanel pretty good. I know Windows servers have security issues. It's said that 80% of thge internet is empowered by Linux...I think that speaks for itself. :)

Yes, servers and supercomputers are better off with Linux, but not because it's better. It has to do with the purpose behind the machine. Servers are used to share information with other computers. Linux has a hardened core right out of the box without the need for third-party security programs/appliances, and is much lighter on resources than Windows. As far as "stability" goes, that's more of a myth than anything. Windows is larger and more complex than Linux, with an infinitely larger universe of available applications and peripherals, so yes, it's easy to screw up. But it's more likely to be user error than programmer error, and such has been the case with every PC I've fixed. That and hardware failure. Supercomputers are typically used to perform single functions that require tremendous amounts of resources. And since many of these functions are random, Linux's readily available programming platforms make it right at home. Home and office computers are intended for entertainment and/or productivity, and are often used to perform multiple tasks at once. And since few users are programmers themselves, it's convenient when there's softare already available to do what they're trying to do. It's said (Forbes) that 96% of the global market is taken up by Windows...I think that speaks for itself. :)

the main difference in my opinion is the philosophy behind each one, Windows has money-in-mind while Linux aims for the best of quality. Needlesly to say that I prefer Linux.

As big a company as it is, Microsoft still addresses user concerns. A lot of bug fixes are made possible by a thing called "feedback." In addition, some of Windows' features are influenced by the consumer market, such as Vista's ability to burn photos directly to CD (a woman on the news talked about how it made her feel knowing that she was responsible for this feature). Remember that Microsoft still does get its money from its customers. Linux is supported by enthusiasts, who probably don't communicate with each other quite as much as employees all working for the same company (This might explain why Linux doesn't have many programs available for it, perhaps?). You might ponder this for a moment, and ask yourself honestly, "Who stands to benefit more from the quality of their product: those who make a living at it, or those who do it just for fun?" This is called "market philosophy," not "subjective, personal opinion." My OS does more than yours, yet it's just as secure because I made it that way (all with readily available third-party software). Here's how I score in PC Security Test 2006: http://www.mylot.com/w/image/1488078.aspx It's also just as stable, because I made it that way (all with readily available third-party software). Free Internet Eraser automatically cleans my TIFs and Windows temp files, while Process Tamer makes sure nothing hogs up all of my CPU. EasyCleaner keeps my registry free of orphaned entries that stand out. WinDoctor keeps all my file/program associations and paths, as well as my system folder, all straight. And finally, PerfectDisk defrags my hard drive. Of course, only the first two need to run constantly, as I already have enough software installed (some of it portable) to do whatever I want to do without the need to build one from scratch. My system is on 24/7 without any problems, ready to go whenever I need it. Needless to say, I prefer Windows. ;)
