With all of my sons they said mum first, with my daughter, she said dad first. They all said their first word around the 4 to 5 months mark?

I was quite 'chuffed' that both of my boys first word was 'mum'. I guess this was because I was the one that spent the most time with them.

Lucky you! I spent the most time with all of my kids but my daughter still said dad first. At least 3 of them said mum first, lol!

I don't have a kid and planning for one soon. But I remmeber first words of my nephew. He was very small and he just asked for water. We used to call water mum as he learns to call his mother easily. On day he asked for , "mum" as he wanted water to drink. We all loved that moment and shooted him nearly for 3 hours more so that we don't miss a chance speaking second time in his life. But alas to our disappointment he didn't spoke a single letter afterwards.

That is very cute. I have not heard of something like this happening before, I bet you all laughed when he did this. Thanks!

I know what you mean, I had to really think before starting this discussion on which one of my kids said what word first. Thanks!

My son's first word was "Woodo" for our dog, Trixie Woodle. He was just under 4 months old. He didn't learn to say Daddy until he had already learned the other dog and the cat's name, too. Then he said daddy. Then he learned hi, go, and no, before he finally said Mama.

Oh no, I bet you were thinking, hey what about mum or dad, shouldn't they come first. That is so cute though saying all the animals names first. Thanks!

We have the same situation. My son also says Dad first when he was about 9 months old and he hasn't said Mom until he reached two years old. He will be four on November but he can only speak about 2 to 3 words consecutively. I hope that he would speak well when he reaches the age 4.

With kids it amazing because one minute they can't say a lot of words then it seems like one morning they will get up and a heap of words will come out, then you just can't keep them quiet, lol! Then they start answering back and you wonder where that sweet little baby has gone. lol! Thanks!

My son said "dada" at around 5 months. I knew he wasn't talking about his dad since he had been deployed for a long time and he had no clue who that man was! I think he really started talking where we could semi-understand at 1 year, like doggy, nice, mama, etc. At 18 months he started using two words together like all done, all gone, want this?

Isn't it incredible after they turn 1, they just seem to pop out with all these new words. I have a 2 year old and he seems to be learning new words everyday now. Thanks!
