Why I am confused.

This discussion is about the topic of making money on myLot. I think some people need to stop with the fairy tale dream N accept the fact that your not going to make any money.
The only money that could possibly be made is by referalls N a smaller amount on the side from responding to interests that you have N building your friends list.
Why then do some try to make $2-3 dollars a day on myLot? Why are some users easily surpassing 1000's of posts? I am stunned. I am shocked that some people would sit on a website all day N make so many posts. I know your doing it for the money. You couldn't possibly be that interested!
The fact of the matter is some are "working" for under a dollar an hour! Do you not realize this? What is the reason for this? Have you formulated some plan to jusity this? Will your reputation grow enough to make you more? Do you not see that you could work at McDonalds for $5+ an hour! Or am I just completely in the dark here N the only one who sees this?

Well let's be honest here, I am sure there are alot of people here that LIKE to answer posts, and are here to do that and like making a couple of bucks doing it. If you don't like it, why do you post here? I am sure I am not the only person that would rather sit behind a computer than work flipping burgers at a greasy mcdonalds.

I am fully aware that some people like to answer posts. That was not the issue I targeted.
This post seems to be negative in nature. If I don't like it, why do I post here? I enjoy it here on myLot. It is a new experience for me. Who said I didn't enjoy it?
So, to work at McDonalds for $5 dollars an hour you would have to sit behind that computer fo 5+ hours to equal one hour at McDonalds. Are you sure then that many would rather that?

Yes, but this is not my job. I would never rely on income from mylot. I dont see what's negative about what I said. You seemed discusted by the people posting here trying to earn money, so I was simply suggesting other options for you.

It is comletely ok that you are trying to make a few extra bucks here on myLot. I know it is not your job, and that it is fun to be here on myLot. I just thought you may have been attacking me with the line "If you don't like it, why do you post here?" Infering that I may very well not like it here N that I am a troll on the boards coming to destroy everyones dreams. lolz.
With that said, keep having fun on myLot. ;).

well first off most people on here are only here to pass some time away while they are on the internet and make a couple dollars, this is not a fulltime job for anybody. and yes this site is fun, you meet people and get to see what other people think from all over the world, and you can make money on here easily if you put for the effort everything takes work and ya i think people realize they can make 5 dollars an hour at mcdonalds I think you are missing the real point of this site if you think people are here for a fulltime job.

I for one would love to be flipping brugers at McDonalds. but I am disabled. and I don't have the transportation to work even if I could. So I set here on myLot trying to get a few cents to have a little extra. besides I like to see and learn about other people and some of the things that they are interested in.

I've been on here for a few months now, and I've made payout once. I don't spend hours on here at a time, it's really just one of the websites I flip through. I appreciate the extra bit of money, as I can use it, but I am not wandering around trying to make several dollars a day here, as that would require a lot of effort for a few cents.

All right already!!! Enough! No more knocking McDonald's and how much the people who work there get paid. Yeah, that's right. I work part-time at........(you guessed it).....McDonald's. I enjoy my job outside the house. I get paid more than $5 an hour. In fact, I get paid more than minimum wage.
I come to MyLot to relax, read and discuss a variety of subjects while getting paid a little something to be here. I have made some friends while here. I laugh at their jokes. I cry with them and I have a shoulder for them to cry on. I agree with them and at times, I disagree with them.
Why do people try to make $2 - $3 a day on mylot, you ask? Some of us try harder if we set goals for ourselves. Some people set a time limit of only being on here for a few hours a day.
If I make enough each month to pay my DSL bill, then I figure I have broke even. Each of us is here for a different reason. With more than 85,000 members, you are going to get approximately 85,000 different reasons. Now you have mine.

The burger king here on base pays close to $9 an hour, far over minimum wage!
I am with you. I have my goal set to make $48 a month, enough to cover my comcast cable internet bill.

I like how you pointed out some people set a time limit of being on myLot for a certain amount of time. I can see how someone then could try and make above a dollar a day. They are trying to beat themselves. They are making it into a competition to see how much they can earn! I like challenges.
As for you working at McDonalds, haha, I just used that as a natural reference term for making a little amount of money. Whoops, didn't know we actually had some McDonalds workers here. *sneaks away*

There are several points here that have not been discussed that I think are important.
I have a full time job and I come to mylot and other sites to make some extra money. So far, I am at $31.50 with mylot with a week to go until payday.
I was one of those who tried 200 posts in one day to see what would happen.. I ended up with $3.47 for that day.
I had the day off from work and wanted something to do anyway.
But here are some important points that people are missing...
For many people who struggle with the English language, this is a great way to improve their skills. And not only is it free, you get paid for it!
For people like myself who are writers, it is important to keep up your writing skills, and they say writing is like anything else.......you should do a bit each day to stay sharp. This is a great place to do that. And get paid for doing it!
Also, as someone mentioned, the American dollar has different values for different countries...For example my country. The U.S. dollar is worth about 18 cents more.
So say I reach $40 in one month. That is really over $47 to me. And consider that I have no deductions or taxes on this money. We are taxed at about 30% plus pension plans, unemployment insurance etc. All this stuff comes off my paycheck every week..Well now I am up to about $80 that my $40 started out as......Plus I am typing better and writing better.
And lastly....If did not spend my day off here at the computer, I would be out spending money somewhere. I'll tell you something, I have never had so much spending money since I came onto all these pay sites.. And I have 4 of them and should be over $200 US this month. Or $236 in my currency and without taxes etc. so I would have to earn about $300 at work to make the equivalent of $200 U.S. tax free.....
So, do I think it is a waste of time? Not in this life time. After what I earn and what I don't spend, it is probably worth easily $500 a month to me to be on all my paid sites.

First, I must say this is a great post. Second, muh hand is hurting from typing so much :(. I could definetly see how it is worth it for you, where your dollar is worth more, you are not taxed, N you are a writer. $3.47 in one day haha thats pretty great. My high is only like 85cents.
You also mention that you are a part of other websites like this one. Could you please share those N tell how effective they are? I am looking to expand.
I have not even considered that people use this site to improve their English. That is another valid point! So, I guess it boils down to the individual person. If it is worth it for them, in their own particular circumstances. I think many should re-evalaute their position, and determine if this is the place for them. Instead of just going crazy posting trying to pick up a few bucks!

OOOO great comment!!! I agree. I am living in Switzerland. I speak native American english. I moved here last year. So I know MANY people that want to learn english, and have a place to better thier skills! That was a great one. I totally forgot about that.
And yes, the dollars are worth more here in Switzerland. (Other countries as well).
Congradulations on your extra money making!

i see from your post number that you have only actually made 90 posts. May i advise you in the spirit of friendship and advice to try and engage with the site a little more. I have been here every day for the last five months and must admit im totaly addicted. No, i am not here every second of every day, and you speak a lot of truth when you say you will never get rich on here. However, I for one am not here for the money (I have a demanding day job that gives me enough money thank you very much). What I get out of mylot is a lot of great friends, a good laugh, at times at least and some great conversations i can get into.
I am the sort of person who loves to learn something new every day and find this forum excellent for doing that. Where else can you learn so much about the feelings on so many issues from people from every country on earth? Also, i love the idea of challenging recieved cultural truths (and having my own challenged) by alternative perspectives and points of view. It feels great to get into serious intellectual debate, now are you really telling me you can do all this turning burgers in Mcdonnalds? i honestly dont think so
Take care and keep on posting
blessed be

I never stated you can get the same experience from McDonalds as you could here at myLot. I only stated McDonalds as a reference of making money.
Your not here for the money? Then, I must proceed to tell you this. You have TOO MUCH free time on your hands. I have failed to look up how long you have been here. I hope it is a long time considering you have made nearly 7500 posts. Regardless of the time frame, I still believe if you make that many posts N you say your not here for the money, the only one you are fooling is yourself. What is your drive to stay on the site for extra hours? Why do get so detailed with so many posts? It is solely for your interest? Very doubtful.
I'm not saying its the worst thing in the world to want to make money here, but I am saying there are better avenues.

There are people who, instead of whiling away their time surfing and posting in a forum that doesn't pay anyway, would like to while away their time in a forum that actually pays, regardless of the amount of money they make here. There are discussions here that I personally like answering to and there are actually posters here who start threads that are worthy of your thoughts and opinions.

I have to disagree as I have seven referalls under me but only one of them is doing anything at all and this would be very little . I believe she has only made a dollar since she started lol .
I don't worry about what my referals do as I am doing this for me . I have made money off here each month . Not a lot but have made almost forty dollars each month and I should have more then that for this month . I am not on here all that much and would be able to make two or three dollars a day without a problem as I am able to type a lot in a short period of time on here .
My daughter timed me the other day and I was able to type sixty words a minute to a discussion I answered the other day , so it doesn't take me that long to get up there when I am having a good day trying to find something to answer to .
I would not be able to work at MacDonald's as we don't have a MacDonald's in our area and someone has to be home with our children , so I do this when I am home with them or when they are in the bed for the night as a way to make a little extra money . I do enjoy doing this and am amazed that they actually pay us for doing this :)

well as i have always said no one can become rich here and most of us DO spend time here to make some extra money.but trying and harvesting this time else where can definitely help us earn better but that is not what all of us want.most of them who post around 100 posts are day are probably money crazy and may not enjoy the site while many do enjoy it.and i am sure everyone here knows that they arent becoming millionaires over here in mylot that is for sure.well most of us spend time here because we do not have nothing much to do or find this place really great to have a lot of fun and learning and building knowledge.i instead of spending time on other sites spend my time here to enjoy myself and as a stress buster.

I have found that most people have no interest in the money at all. Its just a great way to get your opinions out there and learn some new things. The one's in it for the money are making the 5 word posts that have no meaning and cannot even spark conversation!

I think people should dream. No matter what they dream about. Dreams keep us alive. Without dreams, what is life worth? I am here because I suffer from Fibromyagia. I cannot stand up for any length of time. I am in constant pain. So I cannot work. I am unemployed. I am a housewife looking to make money online. I have a drive to achieve that. Whether it be on this site to make some extra money for smokes, or whatever, or another website to earn some extra cash that pays more. Call me a dreamer, I am. Many of my dreams have been fulfilled. I don't think it's a laughing matter to dream. Realistically, of course a person has to have another job rather than just this. There are just many people that cannot work. Have you even given thought this? That there are mothers out there that would rather be home with thier children. Or maybe someone that needs a little extra money in their pocket because they don't work for fun. They just work to get by and pay bills? I believe that this site will increase it's earnings too. I really do. I don't see anything wrong having this as a so called second job, or even a job at all.
Another issue that comes to mind is, some people just LOVE to write. I am one of those people who enjoys it very much. So why not type away on here, than on some stupid site like myspace and receive nothing at all? That's my opinion.
I am an optimist. I have learned that being an optimist really pays off in the end.
Also, there are people out there that have mental illnesses and need to have some kind of social network. Not a lot of people have an easy time meeting other people.
They have problems trusting others, and working with other people.
I think this is great way to discuss issues, and get out any emotional boundries. In fact, journaling is one of the major remedies for racing thoughts. One can sleep better at night just writing down what they think about everyday.
But, see.. some people can be so closed minded and in their own "circle" of life, and not even give these things a thought.
Writing is the most theraputic way of healing in my opinion. Which is why I believe so strongly in online discussions.
Dreams are important. Just as important as the air we breathe.

I agree dreams are important, but I'm really shakey saying that one could dream in a place like myLot. What is one going to dream of getting a lot of referalls? Haha What an excellent dream that would be. I'd probably pull my hair out if I woke up, and had that dream. You only made 51 posts, and your talking crazy. Like a mad woman. I hope you have different dreams.
You are correct I have not given thought that some people cannot work. That is why I started this discussion. I wanted to know the reason behind this thinking that 1000's of posts is going to get anyone anywhere in life.
You believe the site will increase it's earnings? Where did you come up with this rad idea?
It's good that you are a writer N like to come on myLot to write though. It will help. Journaling is a great activity. One should come on here and journal or w.e.. I'm all for that.

It's because this site is not build just for the sake of the money but also for the sake of a meaningful and informative discussion. I know most user are here to earn extra bucks.. and that is why it is called extra.. they don;t really mean to earn big here.
Having moret than a thousand post is not a basis if you are trying to earn big here.. For me it also a sign of enjoyment.

Well, to be honest with you , I am not posting to make money. I actually enjoy reading the discussions and posting my opinions and things like that. If I make a few dollars, great. I am a stay at home mom and I have a few hours every day that I can just surf the net and make postings.
I do it for the enjoyment of getting to know other people and hearing what others have to say about stuff. Why are you here?

You are right.
However, 2 points among others you missed out. US$2 a day means quite a bit of money in some countries.
Another is that some people may not have the legal authorization to go out to work. Or they cannot go out to work for a variety of reasons. Since they can only stay at home, this online portal is one source of revenue for them. Simply as that.

Given two choices, sitting on a computer for an hour for nothing, or sitting on a computer for an hour for dollar, which would you choose? Of course the latter. I think most people who are here just wants to pass the time and earn an extra buck or two while doing it. Besides, it's fun to rant and rave and give people your opinions and also earn some money while doing it. I know I do. I've always wanted to voice my opinions but I'm always quiet and shy. Here, I can just say anything on my mind. Also, I'm in one of those countries wherein a dollar is already a lot.

Well I don't think most people are here to make a living off of posting. It's nice to have a forum that pays and lets you discuss things you're interested. I admit the extra money is nice because it accumulates over time. It's like getting a little present everyday you log on if you posted the day before. When I'm at home, I like to switch between the things I do. Eventually, I end up posting topics in myLot here and there during my activities. I think it's fun...a bit addicting and it's quite easy to go overboard with posting.

Luciea yes it is fun N could get addicting at times. I like how you say you like to switch between the things you do at home. I think that is very important to have a balance or variety of activies to do everyday not just a limited number of them.
Also, I also enjoy watching my amount of cash go up! Slowly, but surely. Very slowly. :0.
