After the tsunami in the solomon islands, so many people on the east coast of australia complained of the way the warnings were sent out. It doesn't matter what the government does it's never enought. I'm not saying their perfect BUT at least there was a warning. I'm more concerned about how long it takes to get emergancy supplies to the stranded families. That is where the government falls down in its duty. They are are just too damm slow.

I think when things like this happens something new and unexpected happens. I think disaster management is a very difficult task since they can only prepare for the known facts but never for the unknown. We have also an agency that looks out for these eventualities but when we were hit by these unusual rainfall last year we were flooded that we never had experienced before. of course the Government was astounded and shocked and the preparedness was not enough because of this. I think that is to be expected from them because they have not experienced it.
