It really depends, did you get it from the petstore? Most small animals from the petstore arnt very socialized so yes, it would be normal. Is it good? no. Hampsters arnt very social animals, nor affectionate. It takes a lot of work to get small animals socialized. I wish you the best of luck. I made a post in another one of your topics. Like I said, if you need help or wanna talk about it you can message me.

You need to observe her being bitten so you can see just why this might be happening.

when you first get one if you have gotten it from the pet store you are going to have to work with it. they can be very loveable pets. we have had hamsters since my kids were very small. the main thing is they scare easy. that might be your main problem there. when you go to pick it up make sure it knows you are putting your hand in to love it. dont just reach in. i usally move the bedding around close to it with my fingers and it will turn and look at me. also make sure you dont have the smell of food on your hands. even if you cant smell it they can. also give them alittle meat in there diet. like a small piece of chicken or egg every few days. my hamsters see someone wlk by and they scratch like crazy wanting out and to be picked up and loved on. my youngest is 10 tomorrow and she takes hers into her room in the morning and snuggles with it it will go to sleep with her. they really can be sweet you just have to work with them like any pet and be careful not to scare them.

Yes, that is normal. It's important to tame your hamster when they are still young. I have 2 hamsters and both of them bite, i was able to tame the male although not that tame, but the female really pisses me off, she really bites hard and worse, she won't let go! i don't hold her anymore. So when the mother gave birth, i put the male pups together with the father, the female together with the mother (of course at the right time), and i made sure that i tame all of the babies. Now, all of them won't bite, except the mother.

Is your hamster a male or female? If it's a female, you might wanna know that females are slightly more aggressive than males, so they'll bite more often. Male hamsters are more relaxed so they don't bite as often.
It could be that your child is disturbing the hamster too much in the day. Remember, hamsters are norctunal animals and they rest in the day. Disturbing the hamster while its sleeping might result in a nasty bite from the annoyed hamster.
Also make sure that you wash your hands before handling hamsters, because if your hands smell of food, your hamster might bite it.
