Dogs can be trained to go potty inside on newspaper???

My stepmother has trained her dogs to go potty on newspaper in the basement. I have never heard of such a thing! She says she can leave them for days (only if she needs to) and they will never have an accident in the house. They just go to the paper, do their duty and she rolls it up and throws it out when she gets back. Anyone else hear of such a thing? It mind boggles me!

Wow, I had no idea. I was always raised with cats, of which I have also. I dont know too much about dogs behavior and training, other than for the two I have :)

I ha a collie mix once that I tried to train to use the paper. What a mess! I think they should just have a really big kitty litter box! Now that is a thought. I don't like training on paper as it makes it very hard to get them to go outside. I prefer to keep the mess outside of the house.
