Why are so many people obsessed with the movie, Titanic?

I've read dozens of discussions on myLot in which people seem to go overboard (if you'll excuse the pun) about the movie, Titanic. Yet it has a weak storyline, some of the acting is awful (particularly Rose's fiancee), and we know from the start what's going to happen.
I agree that the special effects are often amazing, and the final collapse of the ship is very well done, but why is this film so appealing to so many people? Do they like to see people drowning in large numbers? I've read of people who've gone to see the film over and over again.

Its because Titanic is one of the great movie of all time, it's a romantic movie, very well made film.
People also love the characters, the effects, the story and the whole movie actually.
And also, it's because the movie Titanic was made a long time ago, and its still unforgettable.

It actually describes true love and ofcourse the movie is amazing because there is lot to learn from the movie and the struglles of the people while drowning in large numbers is very sad, when we watch the movie we feel very sad about that situations ... But I love the movie !

I own this movie and I am one of the people that has seen it many times. I have not watched it in over a year but I am sure that I will watch it again in the near future. I think that it is a great movie.I loved the effects this is what made it so great.

I went to this movie, expecting to get a nice nap, while my wife watched the film. I quickly got caught up in the story, and did not notice the amount of time spent sitting in an uncomfortable seat. To me, the acting was competent enough to not distract from the enjoyment. I liked the characters. But, the producers made the ship seem real. It was the real star. I have watched it several times.

there was a beautiful and huge ship named titanic in which two youngs
jack and rose became lovers but the nature caused jack to die for rose.this is a real love which is shown by the nature.
love is a gift and when you devote your life to the one you like its like theres nothing between you,this is very nice!
