I think all of us have certain periods of history that we love...why I don't know..but they mesmerize us in some way....I love the ancient Egyptian and Greek cultures, Medieval and Renaissance periods, love the colonial and civil war period in American history..and yes, for some reason...Viking history--so what are yours?

I have always been drawn to the Egyptian period. I have loved the history channel's digs to uncover more mysteries. It is just fascinating to me! Then there is the Renaissance! Wow! They were beautiful back them. Their sense of style and the way they talked. It am sure that it was not boring to listen to conversation that made you think while also using very little wording. Not like today. But then, the Victorian times fit into that also. :) And the Victorian homes were so beautiful! I would love to have a Victorian home with the tall pillars and a wrap around porch designed of warm summer evenings to sit there and sip iced tea and talk! But I would have also loved to be involved in the when America was untouched. The time with the Native American Indians roamed and loved the Earth as it should be. I know there were many conflicts of tribes and then conflicts with the settlers...this that is when the land was still wild, free, and so full of life! Now...we have concrete jungles that vibrate no longer with earth energy...but the rumble of semi trucks and cars. :(

My my--are you two following me around...LOL I think a lot of us who are drawn to different times of the past, probably had lifetimes during those periods...I am after all a believer in reincarnation...and like the two of you always been drawn to ancient egypt, ancient rome..never Roman though...and like you am drawn to the colonial period here in America...I know that feeling..of how beautiful this country must have been...still relatively untouched...I am part Native American myself..so naturally over the years have watched many movies (the "politically" correct ones--LOL) like Last of the Mohicans, then a few years back..there were a whole bunch of TNT movies..Broken Chain..etc etc...as I'm watching these..I'm thinking to myself..my God...how beautiful this country must have looked hundreds and hundreds of years ago...also a bit depressing to for me to realize how much it's been changed. As for the Victorian age..MMM not really...the code of living..especially in England was sooooo strict and stuffy...but who knows...maybe the whole women's lib thing came about by women who had had past lives at that time--heheh

The one that stick out the most for me is the Renaissance & Medieval periods. I think I lived several lifetimes in those times. I love everything about it. I would even dress like that all the time if I could get away with it. I love reading about it, watching movies about it, and pretty much everything about it. Another time in our history that I really have a soft spot for is the Holocaust time. I think I lived during that time on the good side. I've always connected with it. Also a few other times was the sixties & fifties. And the Victorian times too.

I bet you love watching anything King Arthur-ish then...or how about that movie First Knight?? Oh and how about that classic from 1969, Zefferelli's Romeo and Juilet. As for dressing in Medieval or Renaissance clothing...mmmm..don't think so...not without people thinking you're just a tad odd--LOL--but I do know what you mean...the clothing of that time was fantastic....but I'll let you in on a secret...LOL..I did study costume design while in college--oh, yes, we see movies now of that period and think oh, how beautiful...but do you realize they didn't have deodorants or perfumes in those days--one part of the costume women wore in those days was a fliiagre ball filled with potpourri...hung from a chian from their waist...anytime someone came by that was, well say just a tad smelly, the woman would grab the ball to smell it, so not to have to inhale the odiferous/offensive person--I kid you not--see what you learn as a costume designer?? LOL

I love the Renaissance and Medieval periods too. The more that I'm drawn to King Arthur and his love affair. I even got hold of 4 different versions of King Arthur story. Their code of dressing is just incomparable, it's so gorgeous to look at and the code of chivalry is forever intriguing.

Oh yes! You certainly pegged me!! I'm a huge nut fan for Arthurian legends!! My favorite book is "The Mists of Avalon" by Marion Zimmer Bradley. I actually don't like First Knight. :( Or King Arthur. I knew that they didn't have deodorant and perfume but I didn't know about the potpourri bags! That's really interesting! Thanks for that info. I always wondered what it would have been like for the woman during that time of the month.

Of course you were there..so was I... Any particular time though--I was always drawn to the Akenaten period--the "rebel" king who went against the Amun religion and created his own concept of the one God of Aten Also love the time of Hatsepshut--the female pharoah...which was probably why they got rid of her so fast--LOL--Did away with Akenaton and his wife Neferitti--and of course...Tutankamun..whose original name was Tutankaten --mmm..giving a history lesson here...LOL

I love anything really old, pre dark ages in europe, pre western influnce in the rest of the world. I always hated that when they taught us "world history" in school, they only really talked about european/american world history. when I was in college I took a History of the Middle & Near East and a Far East history classes with a prof who actually spent time in these areas during WWII. He was flying out of North Africa during the European offensive and then spent time in Occupied Japan. I also had a friend who's family spent time in Occupied Japan so I heard both an adult's version of the time & a child's. I am glad Japan is now our friend, and would love to travel there some day, I love the art, the buidings stylies & many of the cultural things I have learned of that country. I am facinited by many things asian, and feel a deep affinity to the arts that I've encountered. The first time I heard the music, it hit a chord in me that I think most westerners don't feel, and the paintings just touch my soul.
