when there is noone who's willing to give up his/her seat to an old man/woman, even if i am a lady, i always give up my seat for these old people. and whenever i do it, maybe a man with guilty feelings makes me sit down on his seat as well and he gets up for me. funny how things are. you need to do and be an example and make others feel guilty before they realize things.

woooww.. thats mighty nice of you. thats very sweet. its very rare for women to actually do that. in fact, sometimes they even race with the elders when someone gives up a seat. i've seen that happen a lot here!
kudos to you maryannemax! cheers! c',)

Yes, I used to give up my seats. After all, that's what courtesy, manners and being respectful to elders are about. But I have got embarrassed so many times after they rejected my offer and insisted I continue sitting. *roll eyes*
So now, I sometimes try to be prepared to get embarrassed or just don't bother at all.

i think its ok to be embarrased that way. people appreciate that kind of respectful gesture, even if the elder resists your offer. besides, if they insist to stand, it probably means they are still strong enough to do so. c',)

I will surely do this if that older man, woman will take the ride in a bus or train that is fully taken. I can never forgive myself if something bad happens to anyone when the bus/train jolts for any reason and it was because I didn't offer him/her my seat. It is good that in our place, the younger ones will offer their seats to the elders when the opportunity arises.

yes i would. and i would do the same for pregnant women. they need the seat because of their frail conditions. and we naturally do it because of our respect for the elders. c',)

You're a real gentleman Repz! And yes, I also give up my seat for elder or disabled persons and pregnant woman. And sometimes, I think elder persons refuse to take your sit because especially for man, you know, a little pride and dignity. But I often convinced them to sit, may be my charm working too. (^^,LOL)

Oh definetly, i catch the bus every morning and if the seats are full and im close to where they are, ill offer them my seat. Its not really embarrasing at all, its a kind gesture in my opinion.

yes I was brought up to do this and I taught my 3 sons to do this too , I now have teenage grandchildren who do the same , I myself no longer travel by train or bus , If I did though I would hope someone would be polite enough to do it for me as I am the old lady now , manners in this day and age aren't what they used to be I'm afraid , but we still come across some people with manners xx

I rarely ride the public transportation as I drive my own car. I think the last time I rode one is about 2 years ago. I remember offering my seat to a pregnant woman before. Imagine this, the one sitting beside me was a guy. He didn't bother to offer his seat. "sigh", I guess gentlemen are hard to find nowadays.

It all depends on where I am sitting. If I am occuping the seat near the entrance, I may give up my seat. If I am sitting right back, it would be funny of me to give up my seat as it is unlikely the old man/wowan will walk to the back. If they do walk right to the back, I will give my seat. But, at times, these old man/woman are also seat choosers. So, instead of embarrasing myself and feeling like a fool, I don't take seats that I have to give up :P
