Could Time machine ever be invented?

Time machine has always been a fascination for all scientist.Imagine you could go centuries back and centuries ahead.You could see what would be in the future even if you were not there.
I had heard somewhere that the scientist have been able to limit the speed of the light upto 3000 m/s.

If possible, time travel to the past would scare the daylights out of me. Think about the consequences of the slightest change in our past. What if you went back in time and engaged my father in conversation at that critical moment when he would otherwise have been meeting my mother for the first time... Ouch for me!
