why do most parents hate rock music?

It was New Years Eve and it's a noisy day. My cousin decided to play his favorite rock CD in our CD player. He turned the volume knob into a medium level. Suddenly, we heard a very loud shout saying "TURN IT OFF!!!". The shout came from my cousin's mother and she is really mad because she really hate rock music.
My mother is also like that. When I play my favorite alternative songs in our house, specifically songs with distorted sound, she always gets irritated and will demand for it to be turned off.
Why do most parents hate Rock 'N' Roll?
I mean, rock music originated from their times like the music of The Beatles, Rod Stewart, Bon Jovi, etc.
Why do they hate it if they listened to it in the first place right before our times?
I really hope the MyLotters will respond to this topic especially the parents. I really want to know why...

We all have different tastes in music, and it so happened that the kind of rock and roll our parents grew up with is not the same kind that we listen to nowadays. Music has evolved through different eras (and ears) so we just have to live with it. I like the music of the Beatles but my mom doesn't want to hear Slapshock (she appreciates Bamboo, though). I guess we just have to respect other people's opinions. Who knows, we might also hate what our kids would listen to in the future. Just try to turn the volume down whenever your parents are around...or wear earphones instead. Haha!

i think it is because they don't want that kind of music. teenagers nowadays prefer more of rock music (just like me he he), their generation is different from us. some parents even think that rock music are those with evil connection or something. maybe they are just afraid for us. I think as people get older, they become more careful and superstitious for they have gone that kind of episodes in their lives also.

We have to admit rock music before are not that similar today. Progressive rock is one. Though they share similar melody and lyrics composition, music today have additives that some parents dont want. My father loves rock but he hates rap.. he gets annoyed by it.
I guess it all depends on the music preference of each person. Our parents may have live in the time of Ramones, black sabbath, metallica etc,, but they are not into it.

I am from that generation and I don't mind rock music. I just want to be able to have a normal conversation without a loud background. But really I love to discuss the latest musictrends with my teens.

hard rock music is the taste of todays generation and our parents are little bit old fashioned and they like to hear old songs than now rocking and pop music.loud noise doesn't please them.i think this is the reason.

well my mum is a fan of anything from David Bowie, to Marilyn Manson, to Eminem, to Radiohead....
I think the reason some parents don't like Rock music is because they don't give it a chance. it makes them feel superior to make out that "they don't write them like they used to" when the fact is that there is vast musical talent in all generations.

i have no idea why some parents seem to hate rock music. Well, the "new" rock music. my parents are pretty ok with my music. They know it all came about because of bands they used to listen to in their youth. my family even listens to a lot of the stuff i listen to, like AFI. my entire family LOVES them.

I do not hate rock music at all. in fact if it has a beat I'll bang my head just like the young uns. I even crank some songs up a bit too loud. But hat i don't like is rap. And its not so much the music as what they say. they degrade woman, they use foul language every other word. I cant handle that. My boys didn't like it that i liked their music because moms aren't supposed to like the child's music. I have a neighbor kid who turns his music up so loud that my walls shake. To me thats too extreme. I cant handle that. but i its not too loud I don't mind it at all.

Most parents don't like rock music because they don't considered it as music but a noise. So that's the reason why they don't appreciate it. Rock music are very fast and loud music. I don't even like rock coz I don't barely understand it especially those hard rock. But I like alternative ones.

I'm a parent, but I don't hate rock music. I guess it depends on what you consider rock music. If the music is nothing but screaming lyrics and/or profanity, you bet I'll be yelling to turn it down. But most times I listen to music with my kids.

they actually don't hate it they just don't understand rock music,"probably"... rock music during their time is kinda different with our generation right now. i myself sometimes can't understand rock music. i listen some of it but doesn't really appreciate it that much.
rock music for them is music for addicts and sort of.. guess we'll never let them appreciate such kind of music

Not all parents hate rock music. It's just so happen that majority of parents really hate rock music. There are also some parent that you thought never loved rock music only to find out they went together to woodstuck 1986. Funny ei? The thing here is that it just so happened that they were raised not loving rock music and it is the nature of the parents to discipline their children in the way they wanted to. Some parents want to discipline their child/children in a way they were raised by their own folk or parents. For those parents who hated rock music primarily because they were raised as rock haters and logically wanna raise their child/children in a way that child/children won't be into rock. Whatever the reason behind it still depends. There are also parents who raised classical music lovers but they still think outside the box and they believe that every generation that passes by, it varies from time to time and they gotta have to accept it.

well i am extremely lucky regarding that.my parents are extremely adjustable and do not mind if i blast my speakers with heavy metal.they think i go mad when i had bang and they keep smiling and ask me to grow up.though they are not interested in themusic they do not discourage or restrict me from listening to heavy metal.they like the music from their generation and they know there is a change in everything and respect the same in music too.

I'm not yet married, but let me revert the situation here. Let's say you become a parent in the future, and the music would be something that you would never imagine. If rock music would play very loud instruments and shouting nowadays, perhaps in the future there would be instruments that you couldn't imagine and just pure shouting -- and that would be cool to the future teens. Couple that with swearing and everything else that's still considered taboo these days, then you as a parent may not want to listen to that "stuff". Don't get me wrong, I listen to all kinds of music, from slow to the very loud rock music (because they interest me, feeds my curiosity), but then for sure I wouldn't be able to stand shouting in the entire track. If, say, you like alternative (which is relatively smoother than rock), and your mother doesn't like it, the style is something that she was not accustomed to; plus add the fact that she could also have her personal taste in music. With all these factors mentioned, there is always a gap to bridge when we speak of generation difference, and music is just one of those things. Happy myLotting!

Even my parents specially my mom hate rock music when its played with full volume. She says that her hearts paining when the sound falls into her ears. Also she says its because of her old age and she too enjoyed loud music as a youngster and she cant nowadays enjoy its loud sound.
Because of her we reduce the volume and only when she is away we enjoy the music. All of us love to hear those music with high beats to fullest volume. So most of the time we used headphones to listen but i think using headphones to hear maximum volume can damage our eardrums.

Because they were born yesterday, not today. Before, my Mom always tell me to turn off my music, she says that it makes a lot of noise, but later on, she understands the likes of the new generation. We used to jam together with my brother after that=)

sometimes they are shouting loudly which makes the artist seem angry and of course, parents don't want their kids to be angry, they want them to be happy. also, it might be somewhat of a rebellious act to play that kind of music loudly and parents want kids to grow up more proper and respectable.
