We are becoming increasingly dependent on computers. They are used in businesses, hospitals, crime detection and even to fly planes. What things will they be used for in future? Is this dependence on computers a good thing or should we be more suspicious of their benefits?

Technology will keep to revolutionize and develop as it has been and i think this goes the same for computers. We have been witnesses to the great advantages it has brought about (just what you have generalized/stated) but i guess everything will also have a disadvantage. A reduced manpower was a result when computerization was introduced. So, a lot of people end up losing jobs especially those manual labors being substituted by computerized machines. But IMO, generally the result of computer development gave more advantage. It only gives a disadvantage when man use it for illegal activities. A computer will just follow whatever program or command it is given, so i guess humans will always be superior. Personally, a pc is my window to the world and i couldn't have responded to your discussion without it. Moreso, you wouldn't have posted one without a computer too. Aren't you glad i just did? Happy posting...

It is man's nature to suspect everything. Have we not been benefitted by computers in all walks of life? Whether it is reservation of air tickets or tabulation of exam results every nook and corner it has saved our time and energy. The results are also accurate. I feel, in future, computers will control road transport without drivers, conductors, may help in guiding the engineer in construction works as to what material for what type of construction is better and the ratio of material to be used etc., to put it in nutshell, computer will say you call it I will do it. Am I farfetched?

Another vital role of computers is in communication, be it email, instant messaging, or VOIP. We no longer need to wait weeks to receive snail mail. We can now make cheap or free long distance calls.
Unfortunately it's easy to conceal one's true identity, so there are a lot of "fake" people that you might meet online. This is one of the disadvantages.
